Complete steering rebuild, Need advise...
Ok, the 91 RS 305TBI is getting a complete steering rebuild, and a strut replacement. My steering questions are as follows. I know the Moog is one of the best brands for steering/suspension parts, do I neccisarily NEED it? Or are there more affordable parts out there that will serve my needs? I'm replacing everything so you can imagine the tab I'm going to rack up. Suspension questions; the car has bilstiens on it from the previous owner (one is broken) and I'm looking to replace without breaking the bank. Replacing with bilstiens is going to be pricy, and Koni's are just way out of range. So in lou of AutoZone specials I'm looking at KYB AGX adjustables, anyone have experience with these?
Most of my driving is on the street, but my car handles like no other, and I only want to improve on this. I enjoy powering through the tightest of corners with speed that would cause others to soil their uppolstry. I see exploded tire debris on the interstate, and I smile because I get to thread around it with the utmost precision.
I will NOT put junk parts on my car, no exceptions. But I would also like to save a little money to improve other area's of the vehical as well.
Thanks a million,
Max

Sounds like your alot like me! I bought all Moog stuff from rockauto.com cheaper then buy the ones from my local car parts place! I would think you would really want something good for struts, Imagine how you would feel if you do all that work, and with your style of driving, the struts weren't up to par.

Yeah, thats what I'm getting at. If I cant find something cheaper (the KYB), I will drop the money for some premium parts. I would just like something a bit more affordable for now, then later when I get the cash up for the good stuff I'll just put these on the 92. I havent been auto crossing in a long time due to the fact of working on the motor swap. I wouldent even do this right now but its out of alignment and one of the struts is broken. I dont want to get it aligned (if they would even do it) then have it done again after I get new struts. Know what I'm sayin?
What are you running up front, if you dont mind me asking. And this "rockauto", discount prices? I'll check em' out.
Thanks,
Max

Click on the links in my sig for a list of mods and upgrades
Do it right the 1st time. Don't waste time and money doing the same "upgrade" twice! Basically, I saved up enough money to buy the KYBs, but then I said to myself, "It's only another few dollars to get the Tokico's". Then when I had enough money for the Tokico's, I said, "well, now it's only a little bit more to get the Koni's". Although, I found a guy that had bought all 4 Koni Yellow's and didn't get a chance to install them before he crashed his car. So I bought them from him for only $550 for all four corners, they were new still in the box.

Thanks for the replies, I'll check those links. Something else that I was curious about, the "coleman" Tie rod sleeves. Are they referring to Coleman Racing? If so, will the 10'' sleeves be all I need? Also, the upper strut mounts that a few guys on here are running, are they from Sphon? Whats the best way to go with those?
Thanks again,

Ok, I just checked RockAuto again, this time with the discount codes. The way its looking I'm still going to save $90 buying the same Moog parts from Napa, not including the shipping I would be paying (unless it's free?).

IIRC, the tie rod sleeves are only 4 or 5 inches long. I bit the bullet on the Spohn upper strut mounts, they don't do group purchases
Problem with buying parts from NAPA, they use a lot of different suppliers, so your not "guaranteed" to get Moog parts!!!! But if your NAPA guy will look inside the box and make sure the parts are stamped "Moog", then that be awesome.

Yeah, I thought 10'' was way to much, but thats the smallest size they have listed. I dunno, maybe I was looking in the wrong spot. I'll check again.
About the parts, you better believe the boxes are getting opened before I lay down the paper. They may not like it, but I'm gonna check.
As for the strut mounts, it's just a side thought. They probably need replaced too, but I havent decided yet. Is spohn the only supplier? I should have never went to the Spohn website though, I started looking a all tubular control arms, K-member's, wonderbars, ect
.... One thing I did consider was the bump steer kit. Has the outer tie rods and adjustment sleeves included. Would cost $100 more in total, do you think it's worth it on a stock height vehical?

Any body else have an opinion on my parts selection? What brand of struts are you running? Also, what advantages would I see from the Spohn "bump steer" kit on a otherwise stock suspension?
