I go through them so fast that I found that the Kumho is the best for me at 67.oo each at www.treadepot.com . I use these for street tires and have been really happy with them. Good luck.

I have been running the Goodyear GS-D3 for the last two years and they are great. They stick like glue in the dry and the wet. They're quiet and smooth riding. Just don't try running them in any snow.

Another vote for the Goodyear GS-D3 here. They handle great; snow is not an issue for me, because my car is a fair weather car. The Goodyears are quite pricey, though, unless you can find a sale running somewhere.

Re: best 245-50-16 tire?
The GS-D3's are generally accepted as the best available, but they're pricey. I did a lot of research and got the Sumitomo HTR-Z's. They're dirt cheap and supposed to be an acceptable autocross tire. I'm really happy with them-tons of forward bite-a little too much at the dragstrip actually. Some have said they're noisy, but not at all on my car. They are a summer only tire with a 140 treadwear rating so they may not be the right choice for everyone, but my car isn't a daily driver or a year round car so neither is really a concern to me.
The really good Kumho's are the MX's which aren't made in the stock size for our cars or I would have gotten those.

If your looking for a more all-season tire there's the Goodyear F1 All Season or even the Goodyear Eagles come in that size i think

I run the kumho too. I've had them on it hot weather and heavy ran and it glued to the road. I live in Washington St where we get heavy ran for days. I would go with a tire that guy's in your area run. Just because every tire will work different in each part of the states.Good Luck

Tirerack gives actual pictures of the tire so check them out.
But beware, if youre going for the cheaper versions, prepare to be disappointed when you get them and find out your 245 is closer to a 230-235 tire, or your 275 is actually more of a 255. etc....

Re: best 245-50-16 tire?
I was really concerned about that and almost ordered the 255's. I have seen elsewhere here that the 275/40/17 HTRZ's run really small. I went ahead and got the 245/50/16's and they look just right. If it ever stops raining enough to get a pic I'll post one up.

Re: best 245-50-16 tire?
Tire always seem to be one of the hardest decisions. Performance vs economy... or better yet, the best value.
It all depends on your goals. Also, as others have stated, tire "sizes" vary among brands. A 245/50 may be wider in one brand than another. And it seems that fewer tire manufacturers are making our size. Probably cause they're getting old and not as popular.
My experiance is that summer tires give the best handling and all-season tires seem a little softer and therefore more grippy off the line.
I used Pirelli P-Zero Nero and LOVED them. But they no longer make our size.
I used the Kumho 712's in the 255/50 size and liked them a lot. The 255 size is a good way to get a little more meat under the car but they did sort of have that "rim is too small for the tire" look.
Now I'm running Sumitomo HTR+ and they're pretty good for an all-season tire. (actually they remind me of the Pirelli's a lot) But it took a few hundred miles to get used to the sidewall flex on the Sumo's compaired to the Kuhmo's. The overall handling and grip is as good as any I've used. They just move around more in lane change type situations.
I have a pair of BFG's drag radials on my extra pair of wheels and think they're pretty fair on the street. They spin a lot less than the Kumho's and not as much as the Sumo's. But they still can't hold my mild 350 even with a soft launch. I'd estimate they can take about 90% throttle on most road surfaces. At the track, they dead hook with all the rubber left by the "real" drag slicks.

Re: best 245-50-16 tire?
The best is the Eagle F1 GS-D3, but not the best for the price. The General Exclaim UHP has very good reviews, but I would personally go with the Sumitomo HTR Z and in 255-50-16 size instead of 245-50-16.

I agree about the HTR Z's. Almost went with them but weren't available when I ordered my HTR+'s. Only differance is that they're not all season, if that matters to ya.

Re: best 245-50-16 tire?
There are a lot of good tires out there. I like to consider the value (price vs what you get) more than just a name. And what's "best" to one person may suck to another. Ya just gotta gather your information and make that best decision you can. Trial and error your know. The trick is finding one that best meets YOUR needs and budget. Of course, just when you finally find a tire you "love" they won't make them in your size next time.
There's a saying I like a lot. Paying more doesn't always mean you get more- but buying the cheapest usually means you get less. Value... value... value...
You're going to pay more buying the "top" brands. I had a mental hump to get over just putting Kuhmo's and Sumitomo's named tire on my car. They are, however a really good tire.

Re: best 245-50-16 tire?
I hate goodyear with a passion, their tires are overpriced for what they are, they do have some good tires but they are a **** company i used to work there. If you want the best tires nothing will compare to some michelins but they probably arent made for our car. I will say the Eagle F1 is a good tires but overpriced. I've always like bfgoodrich for tires. I had the kuhmo 712s they were good when NEW but when half worn they really sucked, and they wore out SUPER fast. Right now i got them on the front and some BFG drag radials in the back which handle better than the half worn kuhmos on there, but i should have gotten mickey thompsons

BTW, I'm running the BFG drag radial at the track and they hook up very well. I also wanted the Mickey's but they weren't available for something relating to the DOT requirements. Anyone know if they are making them again?

Re: best 245-50-16 tire?
I am running bfg g-force super sport all seasons, I run the A/S because they have better wet road traction. If you want the best street tire then I would put my money on michielns pilot sport 2s. IDK if they make them in our stock rim size. Goodyears, well they bust belts all the time, cant't tell you how many I have changed because of that when I worked at a tire shop in college, Firestones, well they just suck, they wear quickly and unevenly.

The third gen SCCA guys in Hawaii have had good luck running the Federals, and pretty affordable too. I run the G-force sports on my GN and really like them, I needed a 255 rear, and that's all I could find.
