HELP K-member removal

I'm stuck on a tight deadline to pull out my motor and tranny on my parts car and I want to just drop the whole k member since I cant use a lift to pull the motor up and out. How do I get the k member out as effeciently as possible? I dont care about the shell at all so I can cut it out but i need to keep the front wheels attached so I can roll the motor and tranny around.

Re: HELP K-member removal

thats it????? then why aint this damn thing dropping? I got those six bolts, the strut bolts, still got 1 steering component attached to the body. but out side of that i dont know what else there is that would be holding it up still. Would the trans cross member still on, support that much weight to where it wouldnt drop?

Re: HELP K-member removal

Yes if the tranny is still bolted to the motor then it won't let it pivot down and you probably damaged the trans cross member.
1.) remove the driveshaft and transmission crossmember
2.) unbolt the steering box and idler arm
3.) remove the rag joint between the steering column and steering box
4.) unbolt the strut mounts
5.) make sure the lines are unbolted from the brake mastercylinder

That's what i can think of off the top of my head probably 1 or 2 other things that need to be done

Re: HELP K-member removal

It ain't gonna roll when you get it out.

The wheels are held by the lower a-arm to the crossmember& the struts bolted to the body. My guess is, your struts are still attached to the body, huh? If so, it ain't coming out.

I agree. lift the car up BEFORE the k-member is actually ready to come out. you can leave the wheels and tires on the car (personally I take mine off) or take them off BUT with the front end jacked up put a dolly under each rotor or tire.don't forget to place a 3rd dolly under the tranny.after everything is unbolted and ready to come out then put a chain around the inner metal bumper and lift the whole car.the motor/transmission and entire front suspension system will all come out as one big unit. without the dolly's you will be having a tough time simply rolling everything out in one piece. I got the dolly's I have used at Northern Hydraulics.
