Factory WS6 Good Compromise for Street Use?
As the title asks, for a non-track car is the factory WS6 package a good choice? I have a 1991 Formula that will see no track-time, just a fun driver/nice-day commuter. The springs and shocks need replacing and I was wondering if the extra expense of say Eibachs and Konis would be justifiable? Thanks in advance!

If you want to go lowered, than get the Eibachs, if not, get new Moog stock springs. I have the Koni's/Prokit on my DD and love them.

Eibach Pro kit is great. The 1" drop is great for normal roads--and not so great ones.
My car even rides nicer with them. As well as handling much better. A win-win

Thanks guys! I had Eibach SportLines and Strano-tuned Bilstiens on my 2000 Z28 and they handled great, but the ride was a bit harsh. I'm looking for a good cost-effective set-up that will never see the track.

WS6 is a great choice for street use.
Think about this...EVERY GTA ever built, had the WS6 suspension. On top of tons of TAs/Formulas.....
Not only did it help control the car well, it provided a level of comfort above the 1LE cars.

EVERY Formula too.
Car magazines of the day almost always liked the handling of the WS6 over the Camaros setup.

If I were to build a nice DD car, I'd probably install stock WS6 springs, sway bars with poly Sway bar bushings and KONIs. Not ridden in stock WS6, though. I don't know how the ride compares to ProKit.

skip the stock WS6 springs. The Pro-kit looks better, handles better and rides better. I have had both---well 3 springs in my car--Intrax 2" drop---stock WS6 and Prokit.

Oh. Like I said, I'd never used WS6 springs. I thought due to softer rates and a higher ride height, it'd be a better street use spring than the ProKit. I have the ProKit and KONIs on mine, and while I love the handling everywhere and the ride on good roads/highways, on poor condition secondary roads, the ride leaves something to be desired.

Why do the springs need replaced? Can you give a reason why? If you look at how spring rate is calculated you will see that springs never lose rate, but they can lose height under load or "sag" as some say. This does not make the spring bad unless it has sagged to the point that it is too low for you, which I highly doubt has happened.

Re: Factory WS6 Good Compromise for Street Use?
a spring will NEVER loose its spring rate. It is mathmatically impossible. Spring rate is measured in how many pounds it takes to compress the spring 1 inch. A spring can lose it's load bearing capability, some call it settling, sagging, whatever, but it will still take the same amount of weight to compress the spring 1 inch.

Re: Factory WS6 Good Compromise for Street Use?

replacing with stock springs will raise your car bc yours stock springs have prob settled sum already. they will bring it back to the way it was off the showroom floor. and good choice is the ebach prokit... which will prob not lower the car much more than it is already due to your sagging of the springs. springs never loose rate just the load bearing aspect/free height.
i had the WS6 on my 87formula 350 after 125,000 miles original springs/shocks i went with ebach sportlines and KYB gr2 struts and KYB gas-a-justs in the rear(better than stock but not as good as konis/blistens). now i thought stock it was pretty good but it was insane with the sportlines. alil ruffer but not a biggie. dropped it nice too. im more about performance and looks vs comfort. i liked the sportlines ride height but wanted stiffer springs. so now im going with cut moogs, 5664s front and 5665s rear. sportlines are about 700lb front and 80-130lb rear. the cut moogs will be 875lb front with a 1.5" drop, about 150-180lb rear linear with 1-1.5" drop. so im pretty excited

also have a 86TA with the WS6 and its all stock and its a good bit softer than my 87 when it had the sportlines. but the ride is nicer. the WS6 is a nice suspension. if you think yours is too soft and could go stiffer go with the moog 5662s AKA Z28 springs. but if u want a firmer ride and lowered i recomend the prokit, u want it lower than 1" go with the sportlines
