Went with KYB

Well after 22 yrs my Factory stock Bilsteins need replacing. So after checking Bilstein prices for the front struts & rear shocks, I said forget it, no matter how good they are. Also, since I am driving fewer miles here in Florida on better roads I am going with KYB-GR2 front strut (236001) & KYB-Gas- a-just rear shocks (KG-5562). Bought from Summit Racing for $193.00 vs $800+for the Bilsteins. Will Post the results after the install.

Re: Went with KYB

I am also interested in going the same route. Did all the UMI Performance mods last summer and now need to get rid of the Monroe Matics, LMAO!!!!

So, I am interested in how the ride is with KYB.

Thanks

Sean

Re: Went with KYB

That's the combo I used, and couldn't be happier.
I couldn't justify $800++ on shocks either, it's just hard to put that much money into just shocks.
What springs are you sporting there as well?

My springs are all stock right now, but looking to upgrade. Any ideas? I want my ride height stock or slightly taller.

I also went this route and I am very satisfied with it. I like how the ride is sporty but not to harsh.

Re: Went with KYB

Well on went my KYB struts & shocks today and my old original factory stock ( 22 yrs +) Bilsteins are finally HISTORY. This is a project that I could no longer put off. Just a short drive and the KYB's seem soild enough and are a improvement over my wore out Bilsteins. They were a very good product but the price now is just out of sight, so I suggest the KYB route. P/n's are in my first Post.

I thought Bilsteins had a lifetime warranty. Can't you get them replaced for free?

They were original factory installed on 1987 IROC-Z and I don't think they had a lifetime warranty. That was 22 1/2 years since I bought the car new and I got good use out of those Struts & Shocks. The front strut just started leaking.
