Hit a curb :(

Today it was pretty wet out and slick. I was talking a 90Degree right turn in my Firebird when I went to slow down (from about 15-20mph) it started to slide and I locked of the fronts and the rim hit a the curb pretty bad.

The left front rim (which hit the curb) is pretty broken which is fine I have spare rims but the wheel Is pushed back (towards the door) about an inch. The steering wheel has to be held to the right now for the car to go straight.

How bad to you think the damage would be to the suspension? Tomorrow I'll pull the wheel off and get pictures. I'm praying its just an A-arm or tie-rod. I cant have my car to be totaled. After everything we've been through

Re: Hit a curb :(

Only way to tell for sure is to crawl under (or jack it up) and have a look. You might get lucky and just have to replace the A-Arm (time to upgrade?) or, it might have bent one of the mounts.

Re: Hit a curb :(

Well I took off the wheel and the A-arm and spindle looks a little bent. I couldn't get any good pictures but I went to the junkyard and got raped for 60$ for an A-arm and Spindle. They should hopefully getting installed this weekend.

Happy thanksgiving

Re: Hit a curb :(

Hopefully the subframe itself wasn't bent too & require a trip to a body shop to be straightened out.

You check out the strut? Is it still straight?

Re: Hit a curb :(

I'll have to check out the strut tomorrow when I work on it, I didn't think of that.. And I hope the subframes not bend. I really dont want to take my car for someone else to work on it

Happy Thanksgiving!

Re: Hit a curb :(

i hit the curb in 2006, and im wondering if that causing my pull to the right. I noticed something, when the front is jacked in the air wheels off, i take off the tierods, the strut pushes the passenger side spindle and it turns it out automatically. the other side doesnt do that when the tie rod is remove, just sits there. so im thinking the passenger spindle or arm is bent? (replaced tierods, struts, strut mount, balljoints, caliper, brake hoses, alignment. wheel bearing and still pulls) BTW check your sway bar for damage. im replacing that too. Driving with a slight pull is annoying i feel ya

Re: Hit a curb :(

I put the A-arm and spindle on, it fixed alot of it but still pulled left. Then I spun the tie rod in t2o threads and it drives straighter then it did before. So Im happy with it. I really need to get some pictures of it up here.

Re: Hit a curb :(

Just gotta add, next time let off the brake pedal and just use the ebrake, a car can't turn with locked front wheels.

Its hard to grasp in a panic stop but it works most times.
That is stil lbeing able to turn some or redirect what part hits an object.
