cleaning the underbody need help please.

hi i wanna clean my camaros underbody just so it looks nice and im not exactly sure how to do this. well first of all the under body has rust covering it all over and im not positive but it looks like its just a thin coat so could i go over it with brushes and dawn and a strong source of water will i be able to get this rust off? or is it more then that?

and say if i cant get the rust off can i go over it with that stuff that i belive is called por-15? how much is this stuff and how much will i need brushing it on? do i just buy this at say shucks?

please help me out here thanks i have a couple pics below. once i think of it i might only have rust on the pipes or mostly just on them. the car sat outside for 5yrs in oregon with no cover and it only have 27k miles on it. i will get better pics of it when i get her on jackstands. thanks for the help.

When we were restoring our Torino.. We rented the big power washer from Home Depot, it was a trailer, I don't remember how big it was, but it was huge, 18 horse or something.. We jacked the car up, sprayed it down with a bunch of Castrol Superclean, and hosed it down, we made a shorter tip, it was enough to remove undercoating..

A lot of the stuff I see is not rust, but undercoating. You might want to look into getting some form of remover. I had done my previous F body with Brake Kleen, a lot of rags, and something to protect your lungs, like a respirator.

I wouldn't remove any under coating stuck on well.

Id call some auto detial shop and get quotes on a under side clean.

Once ya add in everything plus the time, it might be cheaper.

Plus they will have a lift to really get under it good.

Re: cleaning the underbody need help please.

Underbody comes off with kerosine, much cheaper than brake clean and a little safer too (not as flammable) it'll stink pretty badly though.

Here's my before & after:

the brown stains on the left are from an exhaust cut out (bad idea)

After some bedliner it's all nice & clean, won't rust and not sticky like underbody spray.

Re: cleaning the underbody need help please.

Stripping the car was the most work, cleaning it took a day, painting the underside another half day. Only cost me a couple of gallons of kerosine, some rags and the bedliner and seam sealer I used everywhere. Less than 100$ for sure.
