Guldstrand 1LE bracket no longer in production!

Bad news,

Jason (JasonM91Z) clued me into a the fact that Guldstrand has ceased production of the 1LE front brake brackets.
Yes, it's true; doing the 1LE conversion on a third-gen may be coming to a close, especially when GM discontinues the
1LE parts in another couple of years. In fact, if the "ten year rule" holds true, they may very well be discontinued in
September 2002, when the last third-gen turns ten years old.

I spoke with David Tilletson of Guldstrand, and he said that indeed they have quit making the brackets. Mr.
Guldstrand is undecided if they will make any more as they have only been receiving one or two inquiries per month,
and the current manufacturing process costs almost as much as they ask for the brackets. Thus, it has turned into a
"zero profit" item. Obviously, it would not make sense to continue selling a product at a loss.

Onto the good news:

Mr. Tilletson suggested that they would produce the brackets again if they could get a group purchase for 50 bracket
sets. (100 brackets.) The price for the group purchase would be $100 / set, plus about $7 - $12 shipping charges,
depending on your location. Since it appears that the 1LE relocation bracket is now on the "endangered species" list, if
you are considering the installation of big brakes onto your thirdgen any time in the furture, I would suggest you
consider buying a set now.

Voice your intent and start setting aside the $112 dollars now!

Email me at: mailto:dan@isthq.com and provide me this information:

Name
email address
State and ZIP code
How many percent certain you are that you'll be buying a set

I would like to run this group purchase from now until Friday, January 5th.

Hmmmm... not that there's any "newish" f-bodies in the junkyards in my part of the world, but maybe I should jump on this in case I ever find those brakes. Heh, maybe in 10 years they'll be in the yards, eh?

I'll think about it and let you know. These would allow me to re-use my current spindles, right?

Tom,

The bracket bolts to your stock spindle after you cut the caliper ears off, and accepts the 1LE PBR caliper bracket. All you need to adapt the 1LE brakes to your car is this set of brackets, and 1LE rotors, calipers, wheel bearings, pads, and the caliper brackets.

Since the 1LE twin piston aluminum caliper is made by PBR and was used on many performance production vehicles including 87 up C4 Corvettes, theres no shortage of calipers. They can be purchased from any parts chain from reputable rebuilders. I got mine for $59 each plus a $40 core. If your stock brakes are on their way out, you may want to consider a 1LE upgrade rather than just doing pads rotors and calipers on an obsolete braking system. 1LE cars also experience less brake fade and better pedal modulation with less effort due to the larger diameter rotor. Hope I could help dismis any concern about the upgrade!

I wouldn't need these same brackets if I'd upgrade to Vette 13" brakes would I?

That would be hard for me to guess. I do know that these brackets make for the least expensive way to high performance 12-inch rotors, short of stumbling across them in a junkyard!

I'll be posting an HTml webpage on the GP on Monday with the details. I WONT be making any money on this deal, believe me! I'll also be working my butt off when I re-wrap fifty sets of brackets and UPS them to you!

Do you really need new wheel bearings?

Yes, you do in fact need different wheel bearings. The outer race is a larger outside diameter on the 1LE brakes as opposed to the standard rotor/hub. If you want, you can reuse your inner bearing, but why?

Hey did my post about the shipping get deleted? Or did I post my sarcastic remark somewhere else?
