loud thump when turning right....

Hey guys, I just started noticing that when I turn my wheel past a certain point theres a loud thump coming from the right front side of the car that only happens when the car is moving. I also recently had my outer tie rod ends replaced so im pretty sure its not them, unless they just did a crappy job. Does anyone have any suggestions? And is this something I can replace myself? Another thing, the car has IROC wheels on it now instead of the stock 15'' z28 wheels, should i have used some sort of spacer before putting those on because the steering at low speeds isnt smooth at all. Any help you guys could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks....

I've had that exact same problem lately. Its gotten much worse and I've noticed that it mostly does this when I'm making a right turn yet even if I'm just going straight. I haven't had any time to look under the car and have no idea of its past history (been through 6 owners). Aaron, have you been able to fix your problem? Its getting me worried and I'm just about ready to give it to a suspension shop to fix, but I'll do it myself if its easy enough.

I would have to see it to tell you but here are a few things to look at. First I'd check your idler arm. Its tha piece that connects to the relay rod to the frame as a pivot point. Same place as the steering box but on the right side. Also check the relay rod (center rod between the left and right side tie rods. See if there is any wear on these parts and replace if nessary. Also make sure everything is well greased.

Are you absoloutly certain that the noise is coming from the front. I had the same problem. I thought it was coming from the front passenger side, but actually the bolts on my rear suspensions pieces had loosened and were slamming into each other. Its worth checking.

Could be the semi-infamous cracks where the steering box mounts too. My front subframe is cracked right by where the steering box mounts and was making some nasty clunks and things as I turned (especially turning right, and especially in the cold). All that stopped when I added a wonderbar and some other bracing though. Just a thought.
