How much for Baer Brake Kit

Hi Guys,
I have a 1990 IROC-Z with Front Discs and Rear Drums.

I am wondering how much it will cost to get
the Baer Brake kit for the front and convert
the rear drums to the Baer Disc kit...and
do they have such a thing?

Any help would be appreciated!

Tommy

$1200 for the fronts
$700 for the rears
Those prices are for the biggest ones that are cross drilled and sloted I think. And that is a drum to disk conversion for the rear.

Thanks Zac,
So it's going to be about $1900...plus maybe
another $300 for installation?

Damnn....that's kinda expensive.

Hi Guys,
I just called up the local speed shop and they said the following:

Front Track system $1155.25
Rear Touring Kit $838.83
Labor &540.00

Total $2534.08!

Damnnn that's a nice chunk of change just
for brakes. What do you guys think?

First off, call some more places. Price shopping is always good. Second, the price of the Track kit has a built in $150 core deposit for your front spindles--money which you should get back for returning 2 usable bare spindles. Third, do the labor yourself if you can. It's really not that hard of a job.

I agree with Jeff, do the job yourself. It's not hard, you can combine it with some other upgrades (like rebuilding the front steering, or installing new gears or diff or alloy axle shafts) and have it all done at one time. I've done the Baer kits on both 3rd & 4th gens. Not bad at all.

When I still had my IROC I was looking into these and I found that you can construct a kit for alot cheaper here's what I remember:
buy rebuilt PBR calipers (88-96 Vette 13"Fr/12" Rr) from any part store. You may be able to sneak your cast iron fr calipers back in for a core charge refund. The pad guides or "saddle" may be avail from part store or from GM. The rotors (non- crossdrilled) would be available from part store also. Braided brake lines from aftermarket company (use set for 1LE). As for the front spindles you could just have a machinist make a set of adapter brackets like the Guldstrand 1LE brackets except for 13". You could bolt them on or have them welded on. They could also fabricate you some backing plates. You would have to change the e-brake cable. Use whatever pads you like. I found a wholesale brake parts supplier (I forget the name) that had the rotors/calipers for cheap. I remember their ads were in the back of the popular car mags and they were out of Columbus OH. The baer kit uses an aluminum hub for the front wheel bearings that the fr rotors bolt onto. This is better because it is lighter and dissipates heat better than the oem f-body rotor. It also is better because you dont have to fool with your wheel bearings when you change your front rotors or have them turned. I originally planned on buying them from Baer but they could also be made by any good machinist. You just would have to find out the dimensions. Hope this helps.

Ive done a total Baer conversion to my 85 transam and Ok it may be expensive for you but I had to import into the uk and it worked out that your dollar price was my british pounds price so it was about 30% dearer for me.However it is the best mod ive done and made so much difference.I did have to put on bigger wheels for clearance.18" all round.
