can drum to disc be done without

can it be done without changing the rear end? i have an 89 iroc and want it to be disc rear so that when i put the 17's on it doesnt look bad with the rusted colored drums.

Nope... well, at least, not without some heavy duty (and very strong) welding:

At the ends of the drum axle tubes are rectangular plates with a hole in the top for the brake line.

At the ends of the disc axle tubes are squares.

On the "difficulty level" of things, swapping the axle housings themselves isn't bad, if you haven't done any axle work before, it would take you a day. Switching to a disc brake system is worse...

so "if" i could get the axle housings and sawp them onto my rearend housing, then i could put discs on?

Yes it can be done without changing the rear end. My brother in law use the backing plates off my 87 rearend(disc brakes). All he did was cut part of the flange just above the large hole on top. The bottom two holes line up with the backing plate but have to drill out to the same size as the backing plate holes.Then mount the plate on and drill out the two top holes.

Or you can always buy the bear kit for some $$$. They have a drum to disc conversion kit.
