Aftermarket Control arms, are they worth it?
Aftermarket Control arms, are they worth it?
I wanted to know if replacing my lower stock control arms with some aftermarket versions will make much of a difference? If so, would the tubular version be better than the sealed box versions. I don't need the adjustability available by either. Please advise thanks!

I guess it depends on what kind of difference you are looking for. If you autocross or roadrace they would probably be a worthwhile addition. If you mainly drag race I think there are better places you can spend your money. I've seen 9 second f-bods run whith completely stock rear suspensions.
As far as tubular vs. boxed. Both are good and will remove the flex you would see while RR/AXing.

It depends on how deep your pockets are. If ya got doe to blow, then tubular LCA's are cool. If you are like many of us, boxed OEM's with poligraphite bushings work just fine.
Jegs sells a kit for about 19 bucks to box in your stock control arms. If you have a torch, an arc welder and about 100 sq. in. of 1/8 plate, you can make this up for pennies!

Some are faster but mine's fast enough.

Like everyone else has been saying, depends on how much you want to spend! The kit that boxes your stock arms is definitely the best bang for the buck. You don't realize how much flex is in non-boxed arms (even in a bone stock car) until u replace them. I boxed the lowers in a 12-sec. 84 Monte SS I had and it made a significant difference. All we did was weld in some steel plates & added poly-urethane bushings. Currently I'm running adjustable Lakewood liftbars in my '91 Z. I haven't fooled w/ adjusting them much yet but out of the box they made a difference, but not what I expected. Also, polyurethane bushings make a big difference if you're willing to give up a smooth ride.
