Rad steamin

Took the car off its stands after 2 and a half months of work. I installed a temp guage and a little fluid leaked out. Now i went for test ride down the street and back, and when i got back, the rad was steamin from the top a bit. Is this a saftey purpose or is my rad gone. The fluid was low, but not bad. So put more in, and its not comin out the top (yet) Im gonna let it sit over night and go back out to the shop to see if its leaked. Any info would be appr. Thanks

This isn't really the appropriate forum for this, but I had that problem a few years ago. I just replaced the radiator cap and the problem was solved. Apparently, the spring in the cap weakens over time and can't hold as much pressure. Because the boiling point of the coolant is lower at lower pressures, you get to the point where you're getting boil-over at slighty-above-normal temperatures or after you turn your car off.
