Anyone ever "mini tub" a 3rd gen?
I have been searching alot of info on the "pro touring" cars, and one thing that alot of them are doing, is running between 315 and 335/35/17s on the back. I would love to fit that sort of tire under my 91 Camaro for traction and the cool factor. Does anyone know if it it possible to put mini tubs into a third gen without making a mess of things? This would be done by a professional of coarse, not myself.... Thanks for any help.

I haven't done it yet myself.
From that tire size I'm not sure if you need to do it if you have the proper backspacing on the rims. 335/35/17 tires are still only 26.5" tall so the height isn't a problem and the 335 is 13.2" wide measured at the sidewall. This would be a close fit but may need a bit of hammer tubing. If your suspension is dropped down so far that the tops of the tires is below the lip of the fenders then you'll just have to do some measuring. If not then just get the proper backspace to push the tire as far inside as possible and let the rest of the tire stick out. Take your tire off. Measure up 13 inches from the center of the hub. From that point measure 13 1/4" wide around the inside and outside of the wheel well. If anything touches then you'll need to do some modifications for that tire to fit.
When I checked my own car to see if mini tubing could be possible for taller drag tires, it doesn't look like an easy job. You're limited to the rear subframe being in the way. Triming some of the metal may gain an inch or so but not much more.

I to would like to put a 13 inch rim on my camaro. I'am sure it would cost alot of money. I run 315s with a 4th gen rear but the tires stick out a little. I would like to have my wheels zr-1 widened to 17x13, there's a guy in CA that can do it. I don't know anyone off hand that can mini tub are cars but surely someone has done it.

most performance chassis shops can do it, but the problem is mini tubbing is the same pricing as tubbing...so it doesn't make much sense to just minitub if you plan to tubb. also watch out for the gas tank
