Re: cape coral fl ****ed up rear end

you seem to be exaggerating, no way for the wheels to move a foot in any direction without the car being ripped apart like a soda can.

you probably broke the panhard bar, or one of its mounting points, and maybe a rear control arm. Probably mashed a rim too, maybe bent the axle.

maybe jack up the car and look under it and see whats broken? post pics if you need help.

Re: cape coral fl ****ed up rear end

got it to my friends shop. So far without putting it on the lift my rim is mashed which i knew already. But he said i snapped my cross member and basically everything on that side of the cars rear suspension is done. He also said he thinks i may have cracked the frame im hoping not. Ill find out more when he calls me after it goes on the lift.

Re: cape coral fl ****ed up rear end

The crossmember is up front and is what supports the motor. If all the damage was out back then he must have been talking about something else. As 86TA said, its probably the panhard rod.

the upper panhard support bar is a crossmember of sorts. It does sounds like the tore the passengerside panhard mount off the frame. Not going to be a fun fix.

i want pics of the carnage!

That's all I can imagine the guy talking about. On the upside, depending on the actual damage to the metal, the fix may be pretty easy and quick if you have some welding skills and access to such equipment.

Re: cape coral fl ****ed up rear end

im going by today it should still be on the lift i will take pics. But he said that i messed up the unibody as well with the impact cause i didnt hit the median str8 the back tire hit it at an angle. Told me that it would cost way more than the car is worth to do a full repair. Not fun to hear and its a friend of mine so hes not trying to ripp me off. Gonna talk to him today to find out my options

Re: cape coral fl ****ed up rear end

car was off the lift but the verdict was the panhard did snap in half and he prety much rewelded most of the carnage but he said the rear end of my unibody on the passenger side is pushed foreward quite a bit and the entire rear end of my car needs to be replaced.

Re: cape coral fl ****ed up rear end

ws6 isn't different in mounting locations of suspension pieces, so any rear end will work that comes from a third gen. you can use a 4th gen rear too, but the tires will stick out 2 inches on each side because it's wider. just match drum brakes to drum brakes or discs to discs and you should be set.

Re: cape coral fl ****ed up rear end

Use your current springs and sway bar (if it survived) on the new rear and your WS6 will be in good order. I don't know if you have a 9- or 10-bolt, but the following link, where combination valves, speedo correction, and brakes are concerned, might be helpful:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...-10-bolts.html

This is not true. There are some differences between some year models such as the PBR vs. non-PBR rear brakes, etc. PBR's came on 1990 and newer cars if I recall correctly. Or was it 1989? In any case those may require a change in your E-Brake cable setup as the brake calipers are completely different. This is also true if you switch to a 4th generation rear end as they'll be PBR brakes, but they'll be different still. The other differences are 9-bolt vs. 10-bolt, 26 vs. 28 spline axels, positraction-vs. non-positraction. That's about it.

More or less. Of course you'll want an adjustable panhard rod in order to use a 4th generation rear as that will allow you to center the rear end under the car. Without that the rear end may stick out on one side and not the other, not just a little on both sides. At least that is my present understanding of the situation. Again the E-brake setup is very different so bear that in mind. Some fabrication is involved in making the E-brake work. In most states you'll need that to pass safety inspection.

89 was the first year for PBR's.

No fabrication is required for the parking brake cables, even the LS1's (check the link I provide above).

I've been under both of them. The LS1 E-brake cables are mounted very differently than those in the third gens.
