Corvette suspension
Corvette suspension
I have the ability to get the front suspension off of a 96 Corvette. Would this really improve my handling that much and also eliminate my strut towers? How hard of a job would this be? I really want my car to handle well and I am willing to do anyhting to do this. Thanks, by the way, I have an 85 Z28.

You can always get a tubular front crossmember, lower control arms and coil-overs that will bolt directly into your car from www.paracing.net
It'll be a lot easier than trying to adapt a suspension system from some other type of car. By the time you're done trying to fit the corvette system in, the aftermarket one would be cheaper.

It would be more impressive if you got the back end of the vette. IRS!!
now THAT would be cool!!!
now THAT would be cool!!! um unless you want to put in whole new frame before the rear subframe, forget about it. Thats why no one is commenting. Try to get the rear though.

I've been thinking about it after reading Herb Adams suspension book (forgot the exact name) but more about switching from strut to upr and lwr control arm front suspension - Peerless Engineering offers software to custom design the front suspension for whatever camber gain, caster, brake antidive, roll center, etc you want by entering dimensions like track length, upr and lowr control arm pivot points, spindle info, more - of course there is a lot more to it- trying to be brief -
Theres hardly any room for an upper control arm on our cars - although according to Herb's book the upper control arm can be at least 30% (recommended range 30-80%) the length of the lower control arm so it may be possible ,look how short the 4gen upca are, but will C4 I'm assuming upca fit and give the performance characteristics you want? - theres always custom
now we need a way to mount the upper control arm to the frame which I think can be done by having an aftermarket K-mbr, a bracket extending from the mounting points of the K-mber across the hole for the springs to the outside of the frame wherein the bracket will provide a mounting point for an inner shaft that the upper control mounts to and a mount for a coil over - seems doable-
C4 spindles might work I think - it looks like they have the 1LE calipers and I believe the wheels have the same bolt spacing - may have to check backspacing and brake clearance- again there always custom spindles
what you get for the work is less weight and increased camber gain of a upr and lwr ca suspension versus the strut type - may/may not be worth it but I'll prolly keep thinking about it anyway

Vette IRSes usualy go for $1500. Get whatever parts you can. There was a guy that put one in but he never told anyone he did it on his GTA. I know there are 2 modles, a dana 36 and a Dana 44. a Dana 44 is about as strong as a chevy 12 bolt, and the dana 36 is less strong. I dunno if it is stronger than a chevy 10 bolt. I have a Dana 35 in my jeep and it seems almost as weak as a chevy 10 bolt.
