12 bolt dif swap

I have a 90 camaro RS that I am going to build up. I dont want to mickey mouse anything. I want to put in a 12 bolt rear end. What do I need to do to put it in. Is it a bolt on part, or how much custom work do I have to do. I want to keep this car all GM. NO FORD PARTS. Any help would be apperciated.

You need to buy an aftermarket bolt-in housing. Finding one in the junkyard to use is out of the question. First of all you need to find one narrow enough to fit under the car (first gen f-bodys). Moving all the mounting hardware such as shock and spring mounts over to the 12 bolt isn't hard but you'll find that trying to mount the torque arm is impossible. The only way around it is to go to ladder bars or a 4-link system and by the time you're done fabricating everything, it will be cheaper to just use the aftermarket diff.

It doesn't matter if you go to a bolt-in 12 bolt or 9". Both will set you back about $2000
