All third gens came with power steering. You need to find a manual box from an S10/S15 that had a 4 cyl in it. It will bolt right up. You can use the S10 pitman arm but it's better to have the third gen arm installed on the manual box. The angles are slightly different.

The power steering box, pump, fluid and brackets, cooler if equiped, hoses, were probably around 50 pounds. Maybe more.
A manual box is less than 10.

Say if I went to junk yard to get one...
what all would I need to get? just the manual box or what else....
my power steering pump is out and I've been wanting to convert over any way. It just seems like a good time.
With out da power steering pump it's still kinda hard to turn da skinnys. It would be alittle easier with the manual box wouldn't it?(since the pump is out)

Depending on what year the truck is you may need standard or metric tools. 3 (or 4) bolts hold the box to the frame. A bolt holts the slip yoke for the steering shaft. The pitman arm can be left on but you'll need to take out the cotter pin and nut for the tie rod and hammer the tie rod off.
A few wrenches, probably some sockets and a ratchet, side cutters, prybar and a hammer. I can't even guess at all the sizes. I think the mounting bolts need a 3/4" wrench and socket.
The hardest thing will be locating a 4 cyl truck first.
The steering ratio is higher because there isn't a power assist. This means having to turn the wheel more to make turns. It's how the box is geared to give torque multiplication.
I wouldn't recommend a manual box for wide 16" wheels. That's why many 16" rim cars have a quick ratio box.

I have an 86 S10, 4 cylinder with manual steering. The box looks like it bolts up the same as the one on my thirdgen. I have been wanting to convert my trucks steering to power because of the ratio of the manual steering box. All that turning gets really old really fast.
i have a manual s10 box on my car. easy swap. the frame to box bolts took a 15mm socket i think. i changed to a tilt stearing column at the same time.

I considered changing my tilt column to a standard one but the tilt helps me get in and out of the car past the roll bar.

Most sactioning bodies impose a weight penalty for non stock type things such as steering.
so the weight i would be losing by going to a manual rack in the end really wouldn't be worth much because most places i looked, it took a .1lb weight penalty per cubic inch so i decided against it. I'm probably going to just run a manual steering box or just keep power.

they have a kit for you but you need to get their k-member with it.
plus it is all bolt in including the rack/pinion conversion.
Call up jason or vernon and they'll tell you anything you want to know. As you can already see i almost went through with the rack conversion
