back half q's for orr
hi everyone! i am currently looking at options now for back halving my 92 and i have some quick questions (iv serched for about an hour or two and i half to go to sleep soon so i gave up lol) as most of you know i will be open road racing my 92 and i was wanting rear tires wider than 10.5" for traction. i will have to go with 18" rims atleast to fit the breakes but i was thinking between 13 and 15" wide would be great.... my question however deals with the suspension side of it with such wide tires im woried about the shocks/springs being to close to eichother ( left and right side that is im going with coin overs) in my head it reminds me of doing bench presses with your hands real close together and it makes it allot harder to keep control of. so anny thoughts on that would be greatly appreciated. also im having a little trouble finding good information about what kind of suspension to use (factory style/ 4 link etc) so anny info on that would be great aswell. btw i thought about irs, however it just didnt seem like the best option for me because of power handling expecialy with the amount of rubber i will have on the ground, the way i drive ( verry agressivly) and the power i will be putting down. all thoughts and opinions welcome other than those discouraging the project as a whole plz dont waste your breath.

Re: back half q's for orr
you can have spohn make offset LCA's to fit a wider tire but you will need a minitub. OR you can wide body fender it and go outward.
I think an 18x11 is all you will ever need however.
ps. was this thread title calling for me?
I am not setup for road race right now haha

Someone thinks highly of themselves

ORR = Open Road Racing. Or atleast I'm fairly sure it does.

If you need to go wider, you have to go out with fender flares.
However, i don't see any reason to go any wider than that, with a race compound, that all the tire you'll ever need
in reality for openroad, you may want to push the tires out more than tucked in, but thats up to you to determine.

Sorry, my lame remark was an attempt to mess with Orr89RocZ for thinking the thread was directed at him.

Re: back half q's for orr
i have 335/30/18's fit in the wheel wells with a pretty invasive minitub, i can fit 345/30/18's too, maybe a little wider but that will put the tires about flush or just outside the wheels wells, and i dont want that look. With the stock width axle, they wheels have 8.5" of BS, thats on a 18x12 wheels, the tire is 13.5". Thats as fas as you can go with a minitub without redesigning the rear suspension completely. I have custom offset control arms that Spohn did for me a few year back, had to use coilover because the stock springs wont work anymore. Had to clearance the panhard mounts, since they are almost in the wheels.
oh btw yes ORR = Open Road Racing but thank you Orr89RocZ for your input
and what sizes are you running for that 9.8 1/4? Joined: Aug 2006

Re: back half q's for orr
if you go much farther in, your cutting out most of the frame rail, the panhard mounts will both be in the way, and IN the wheel, the passengerside would be the biggest problem. Then the control arms, its hard to offset them more than i already have, and much further in and you getting into the spring of the coil-over and the shock.
you can go further, but your going to have to redesign and build all the mounting points for the suspension from scratch. the only way to do it would be to preform a complete backhalf and use a different rear suspension setup, 4 link or 3 link, preferably the 3 link.
but putting 2 friggen huge tires under the car, that close together will make the back end really loose in a turn.
besides, there are ORR cars out there making a shitload of power and performing very well without the need for a tire larger than what im running.

Re: back half q's for orr
i apoligise for being so persistent but i want to learn as much as i can about this subject
so if i move the frame rails in, i could go with 3 link or 4 link(probably not 4 its my assumption that they are primarily for streight line performance) why could i not keep the tqarm setup i could mount the lca's on the new frame rail (**** i forgot how they mounted on the axel lol they are underneath right lol) and use coil overs mounted on the new frame rails. also i heard about a different kind of suspension recently called a angeld arm type. also could you be more specific about the rear end being "loose"?

also does anyone know how wide a third gen is from widest point tho widest point in the back? so i can figure out how big of fuel cell/ tires/ frame room i will have total without moving the wells out
