Is this rear-end worth the price?
Is this rear-end worth the price?
The rear-end is a 9 bolt with disk brakes and includes the prop valve. Its out of an 86 T/A. Not sure gear ratio but its only $200. Im thinking of putting it in my 84 camaro now with a 350 in it. Originally my camaro came with a 305 like the T/A but I have a 10 bolt rear with drum brakes. Would it be any better than the one I have now or should I even bother with it?

Id stick with your rear end....that 9 bolt is an austrailian rear and parts are a lot pricer.... Its only a little stronger but not worth it. I think you would have to change your proportioning valve on your brakes to run the disc rear also...
The nine bolt is considered a superior rearend and should have 3.23 gears and a posi in it. Not a bad deal. GM are famous for breaking stuff in the rearends so it does not hurt to have a spare lying around.
The main problem I found with the 9-bolt is that I couldn't find any high performance posi unit for them. I found some people that make the gears but no posi's. If its a disc brake rear end you want Third Gen Resource has a crap load of them and if you expecting more horsepower in the future or have a lot now, the 10 bolt is easy to find parts for and is very common. I would stick with the 10-bolt....I've been doing 11.20's on mine for a while and haven't had a problem yet.........Hope I didn't just screw myself.
i broke my 9-bolt 3.45 geared disc brake rear, good thing i had an extra 10-bolt drum with richmond 3.73`s and the master cyl and prop valve, just had to buy parking brake cables and i was back in business, btw i broke the teeth off the pinion gear, and as far as i can tell this is the only problem i have seen occur with the 9-bolt.
