BRAKES NOT WORKING!!! PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!

The other night when driving around I noticed my brakes weren't working like normal. I have to push the pedal almost ALL the way down to get the brakes to start working. The red brake light in my dash comes on when I do that. My dad said he added brake fluid to it but this mornin I drove to school and it didn't help it at all. I am supposed to be at work right now about 25 minutes away but I can't go because of the brakes I don't want anything to happen. My dad is gonna look at it in a few minutes when he gets home but can someone else please help me??? What should I look for or do to get them working right again!!! Please reply ASAP and thanks in advance!

If you put in more fluid and still no dice, then the Master Cylinder has probably retired. My brothers cutlas did the same thing and the Master and booster had to be replaced. You might want to also check the ground for fluid.

You can probably find a remanufactured M/C for around $40, shouldn't take more than an hour to do, including bleeding. You might want to find out why it needed more fluid first, though.

My dad said he's gonna bleed the brakes to see if there was any air in the line and he's going to add more fluid and check for leaks. Hopefully this works. If not then I'm not gonna be able to drive anywhere to get money to get a new M/C lol

OK GOT IT FIXED!!!!!!!! One of my dad's good friends wanted to see it. He drove it and he noticed 2 things I noticed. 1 the brakes... and 2 when u start off fast it had this HORRIBLE jerk to it and this loud noise and bump I didn't know WHAT it was. Well, turns out... the brake lines were collapsed.... we replaced both of them and he bled the brakes all the way and now the brakes work just like a brand new car. The jerking and stuff when it started off... the transmission mount was BROKEN in HALF!. We fixed everything and it runs sooo smooth. Thanks for the help guyz!
