Has anyone made their own subframe connectors?

It seems that there isnt much to the weld in connectors. It would be a lot cheaper to just go buy the steel and weld it in. Any comments?

The "Sub Frame" on the 87 Z28 Convertibles are welded to the Uni-body already, no rubber mounts at all. Every add for these sub frame connector claim "Not for Convertibles". Any body ever come across this? I want to make sure the body can handle more horsepower, it's a heavy car and only has the stock LG-4, 160hp carberated engine. It needs more power
