Correct way to install pitman arm?

I'm currently installing a Flaming River manual steering setup, and it requires me to install a new pitman arm on the new box, which I've never done before.

Are pitman arms supposed to go on very tight? I've been hammering it onto the splined shaft, but it's getting pretty tight now, and I'm afraid to just smack the crap out of it. How are pitman arms normally installed? Any insight?

TIA,
RSR

yeah they're pretty tight, they have a "missing" spline so they only go on one way. can you referance how much of the splined shaft was sticking out on the old box? basically i believe you'd want to replicate that. a little heat on the arm would help also but don't over do it.
