Tadder,my exp. with SSM lift bars

I`ve had them on my car for 3years now and haven`t had any problems.Ican understand everyone`s concern with binding coming out of the driveway or going over a bump crooked.No damage so far.I drive it everywhere as I don`t own a trailer, no noises and haven`t noticed any difference in ride quality.The rest of the rear suspension is painfully stock,down to the OEM crap rubber bushings,and averages low 1.60s for 60` times.IMO,there are only 2 downsides: no adjustability of pinion angle once installed,and weight.Wish I`d inquired about chromemoly!!! Good luck!

Cool, so few people have done this. I bought the kit from Summit last Christmas and its been stuck in the shed ever since. My concerns are that;

1) Ground clearance and weight
2) Installation sounds a bitch
3) The increased pressure on our axles- though I do have a BW 9 bolt now!

Have you got any pictures on your car? Can you see it from behind the car? Does your car handle well?

Thanks

88blkiroc I had the same thing happen to me w/ the lakewood bars, it was a combination of poor design & standard grade steel...I sent them to lakewood & I guess many others had too b/c Lakewood was already redesigning them. I have a brand new set, redesigned w/ grade 8 steel, just have to bolt 'em on & see how they hold up.

lakewood told me to take the whole system off aand just to send back the broken plates and put my old control arms back in. well the old arms are in the trash cause they were bent to crap. i have to call back and see what to do. why they just dont send the brackets is pissing me off im thinking about getting the new ones cryo treated so they are stronger.

Sorry,just got back from vacation.As far as ground clearance goes there is about 6"between the bars and the ground at the axle and 3-4" where the bars bolt to their crossmember, this is also the lowest point on the car.As far as weight,I`m not sure. Maybe you could weigh allthe pieces seperatly and come up with a total,I`d like to know. The entire kit requires lots of welding that should be done by someone experienced.Drag/street racing is my preference,so I don`t really know how it would work carving corners like you would if you were say, autocrossing. Normal driving seems OK to me. They are visible from behind and from the side.They are NOTHING like the Lakewood stuff.

Also can you actually feel the front lifting when you cane it from rest?

Looks like quite a ride you have there!

Also why would one need to adjust pinion angle? Please someone explain. Thanks

I don`t have any pics of the car I agree with you about your ride height concern. With the bars and crossmember installed along with your existing ride height I don`t think you would be happy with them due to the ground clearance.The car launches well but I don`t think I`m taking full advantage of the leverage they apply. The car needs some 90/10 struts up front to keep the weight transfer going to the rear.Beat tires don`t help either.Pinion angle adjustments determine how the suspension "hits" the rear tires,harder or softer.Maybe someone can explain it in better detail. Thanks a lot !!
