UMI Front A Arms? Issues?
I bought the whole Spohn setup a few months back and got it all installed and I am disgusted with the fitment of the Spohn A arms and how far back they make the tire sit in the wheel well. Has anybody had issues with the UMI units in having the wheel sit back farther in the wheel well? I'm getting massive tire rubbing on stock tires.

Do you have pictures? Are the arms adjustable ones or fixed length units? I f they are fixed units then it sounds to me like someone used the wrong jig in fabbing yours.

non adjustable. From multiple posts about Spohn Arms it seems common. A ton of complaints about the wheel sitting back farther.

Re: UMI Front A Arms? Issues?
I read those post and am mostly shaking my head. There are no factual basis to anyones arguements.
What I se is a few people doing brake assembly changes at the same time they are installing these A-arms...so...the brake packages will offset the track width wider and cause the wheel to hit the rear of the fender wheeel at full lock since it swings in a larger arch.
Then there is talk of how everybody was so careful in marking their alignments prior to disasembling the old a-arms and replacing with the new tubular ones- well surprise people, the old bushings are worn and will set the arms in a different position than the new arms with NEW bushings- OF COURSE THE ALIGNMENT WILL CHANGE AND HAVE TO BE CORRECTED!!!
It is NOT the A-arms being different that stock configuration.
Heck, just unbolting the struts from the spindles and then reataching them later will slightly alter the alignment specs from slop play in the componant marraige.

So putting back on stock ones and it going away is not factual?

Re: UMI Front A Arms? Issues?
But its the entire tire that sits back farther. Not outwards or alignment off its the whole physical tire. It looks goofy...
I agree the big brake setup will stick the wheel out farther, but not sitting back a ton. I swapped out good A arms with poly bushing and new BJ and I;'m not worried about alignment issues. Its like the balljoint is sticking farther back to the rear of the car almost an inch.

Re: UMI Front A Arms? Issues?
I am going to try to get some. Car is in storage but I should be able to run over to the place this week and take a pic. I'm worked on these cars for a long time now and usually know whats good but needs adjustment, but this is way too extreme. I'll keep you updated.

Re: UMI Front A Arms? Issues?
In case you are considering the UMI arms. Please be aware they have several issues.
First they do not have a spring index so no means to locate the end of the spring. They also do not have steering stops.
Both the UMI and Spohn do not have bump stops. So you need to figure something out there too.

U mean the spohn steering stops? Cuz then you are correct, they do NOT work with UMI perch style a-arms.

Re: UMI Front A Arms? Issues?
I just purchased the BMR units with the stock spring pockets since they are having a sale for the holiday weekend, great price, looks like a very nice arm with the bump stop. I'm hoping this is not an issue with these. I'll let you know as well as before and after pics when I install them this winter along with the new adjustable struts I bought.

Yea, that would be cool, I have it jacked up on stands and have started the tear down for the new stuff. Pretty cold this morning, glad my garage is heated.

Ryan, how come there are no steering stops on the UMI a-arms?
