Has anyone mounted their battery in the rear wheel well where the spare usually is?

BMR makes a set-up for 4th Gens that looks real clean, don't know how close it is to work in a third or if they plan on designing one. I'm sure it's been done, been toying w/ the idea myself.

My friend did it to his third gen. He put it where the spare goes and said it wasn't a problem. He did make a bracket for it though.

I mounted mine in the back where the storage box is on the driver side. Open the cover, there's the battery. I like it.

I would put it there but I have 2 amps, cd changer and 2 12" subs there. That is why I was thinking about putting it where the spare used to go.

If you already have 4 ga. or bigger going to an amp in the back, it's an easy change. Just put your battery back there and use the existing 4 ga. wire in reverse.
Actually if I put the battery back there, I would use 0/1 gauge wire.
The question still remains, will the sheet metal in the well where the spare went hold that kind of weight and has anyone done this or made a bracket of some sort to support the weight.
Will the Moroso box ift back there?

I'm planning on putting an optima in my spare tire well. I test-fit one and it looked like it would fit great! I think I'm going to remove the tire mounting bracket and weld in something resembling a battery tray. I have to weld in there due to rust, anyway..

we did one on a 91, used an optima drycell and welded in a relocation battery tray. fits perfect and out of the way. the guy liked it alot.

I was thinking about using a dry cell but nothing in the NHRA rulebook differentiates between wet and dry cell batteries and the need for a sealed box.

that may be true; a year ago it wasn't. maybe too many people complaining because the battery's are a lot more expensive.
it's your choice, pay the extra bucks for a cleaner setup without the worry of leaking or vapors as well as a more reliable battery, or go cheap and run with it to see what happens.
once you buy a drycell you won't go back; i have them in all my vehicles and especially if it's relocated to the interior.
