Tranny Mount Rotted

The other day I noticed that my tranny mount was bad. I have been experiencing a problem with wandering and the car feels loose but I doubt that the tranny mount is the cause of these problems.

What would be some of the signs of a bad tranny mount? Would they be very noticable or barely?

When my tranny mount went bad, I would hear a loud thud(under the car) when I would accelerate from a dead stop. I went ahead and bought a polyurethane mount.

The main sign that you have a bad trans mount (especially in a V8 car) is if it's still the stock style. That's very bad: it's just a blob of spooge pretending to hold the car together. They're a joke.

Get an Energy Suspension one. Don't even worry about trying to figure out if yours is any good or not, it's approximately 100% certain it's toast.

hhahah I like that analogy..

blob of splooge! hahahaha
yah.. it's not that hard to replacec..
it's worth it to upgrade those to the
new polyurethane mounts, there pretty
inexpensive and they can take abuse.

would a bad tranny mount cause the car to feel loose because it is not properly secure.

I suppose it might; the torque arm goes to the rear of the transmission. While you're at it, replace the torque arm bushing with a polyurethane one (visit http://www.energysuspension.com to find out which bushing your car needs, there's two types)- that made a noticable improvement on my car's stability in turns.

lol, I like those pictures.
Did anybody else have to enlarge the crossmember bolt for the poly unit?
I also think I stripped one of my crossmember bolts when reinstalling. It's in there snug but whatever it screws into is semi loose. I'm not worried about it much, I'll just keep an eye on it for now.

I didn't have to enlarge the center hole; I just shoved the trans over to the side so it'd line up. The torque arm pushes the back of the trans to the side a bit; once you pull the trans mount, the trans/engine is just held to the car with the two engine mounts, so it can twist left/right...
