Re: Whys my camaro sitting like an suv?

It's hard to tell from the photo, but is your driveway on a slant?

Anyway, are your rear shocks in good shape, or are the blown? Did the previous owner replace the front suspension, but not the rear? Possibly cut rear springs? The front appears to be at stock height, but it's hard to tell from the photo.

Can you take measurements for the front and rear from the ground to the bottom of the fender lip?

Re: Whys my camaro sitting like an suv?

my driveway is completely flat, ill take measurements tomorrow its late and snowing out at the moment, anyway should i just replace all the springs? i was wanting to lower it but i didnt realize i would need an adjustable pan-hard bar and torque arm and everything thought all i needed was springs

Re: Whys my camaro sitting like an suv?

It's always nice to know the cause of the problem, haha. But I doubt it's anything horrible. Most likely worn or altered components, a previously lowered rear and not the front, or near components in the front and not the rear.

But yes, LCA Relocation Brackets, Adjustable Panhard Bar, an Adjustable Torque Arm, Lowering Springs, and stiffer shocks/struts make life a lot easier and give you less recurring expenses. Sure you don't need them, but it certainly makes you pay less for rubber less often, but it makes it a hell of a lot safer as well. Last year, I actually saw a kid get his car impounded for having outrageously negative camber of a VW... There couldn't have been more than an inch of ground contact. Yet VW/Audi kids think that camber and bike racks are cool to have?

Re: Whys my camaro sitting like an suv?

so could i put on lowering springs and get the other parts later as a growing thing? or would i need all of them at the same time?

and about the negative camber thing theres a ton of them

this is a website dedicated to people who feel that buying new tires every 5 months is cool

Re: Whys my camaro sitting like an suv?

It does look more like it is stock up front, but lowering/cut springs have been put in the back. Not real uncommon for someone to do the back first, since it isa lot easier to do the rear springs than the front springs.

Did you recently buy it & are wondering why it sits like that?

As for the lowered V-Dubs...Not much choice on a the older swing-axle transaxles. The IRS transaxles are less impacted by it & both can be fixed by relocating the transaxle up higher into the pan. Not real hard, just takes a little extra work.

Re: Whys my camaro sitting like an suv?

Nothing wrong with those cars. I personally enjoy going to H2O every year. I never not have a great time, I just see no point in having negative camber. It's not benefiting you any, haha. I'd prefer to go fast WITH traction vs... poor traction, tire rub, new tires every few months, and fast? Nevermind, can't classify them as "fast".

But back on subject, I'd definitely get underneath when the snow clears up and check it out. I'd check the rear out first for sure. Something just looks strange.

And hypothetically, yes, you can throw on springs and add to it, but it lead to some issues, mainly a lack of alignment. But with stock, softer shocks/struts it'll put more wear on the springs and potentially prematurely wear them out a bit. (Eibach's are lifetime guaranteed. But I'm not sure if not having a stiffer shock will avoid them or what not.)

But you could always slowly purchase the pieces and put them all on in one shot. It'll save you a ton of time tearing apart the car.

But when you find what you want, definitely take an extra 30 seconds and google the part number and click the shopping tab and filter by price. Found some great deals on parts... saving a decent chunk of money. Koni Yellow rear shocks for $105.67 with free shipping? Can't beat that. Just wish the fronts weren't so damn pricey.

Now if I can only make my own decisions.. I can always assist other people but cannot decide between anything myself. But hey, it's ok to hold back for now. May be selling my bird and picking up my brothers camaro that's virtual in perfect condition with the exception of a scrape underneath the front bumper and those damn lift supports the give out and rust.

Sorry for the double post -

For just stock springs, you can always use Moog's. Good, OE quality and not poorly manufactured by children overseas.

Moog 5662's can be picked up from RockAuto with a 5% off Promo for $68.87. Also found them on an eBay store for a tad cheaper with shipping for $67.05 with shipping.

Rears would be 5665's if I'm not mistaken. $57.71 with free shipping.

So you're looking ~$120-$130 shipped.

Though advertised as stock IROC replacements, the 5662's lowered my car slightly in front and jacked it up to nose bleed height in the rear (so much so that I replaced the insulator with radiator hose and cut the spring).

The front 'looks' high to me. Are the springs indexed correctly?

Re: Whys my camaro sitting like an suv?

also my friends completely stock 89 Camaro doesn't sit as high in the front so that's what i was basing my original question off of
and my main overall question is what is the cheapest possible solution.

i prefer how low it is in the back and i thought it was stock and the front springs were messed up

Re: Whys my camaro sitting like an suv?

I've heard if springs aren't installed correctly it will cause the front to ride high. I believe there is a notch or something to index the spring with. I'm sure someone else can elaborate, I haven't changed springs yet and aren't too familiar with it.

Re: Whys my camaro sitting like an suv?

I would first check to see if the springs are installed correctly in the front. If they are & you are on a REAL BIG BUDGET and the rears are fine....Just pull the fronts out, cut them & reinstall them. Would cost you nothing but time, if you have an angle grinder to cut them. I would suggest looking into an alignment afterwards, regardless of how you do it.

Re: Whys my camaro sitting like an suv?

Hey, Check the front and see if the springs are all the way in the k member. Mine was like that after some front end work and after looking at it closely I noticed that the springs were actually not all the way in the pocket correctly.

Check that up and try it out!

I gotta agree that the springs are probably not installed correctly. They may also have some sort of spacers on them. I don't know why they would, but it's possible. taking the shocks off and checking to see if they're broken and holding the car up somehow, not very likely, but if you can't find anything wrong you could at least check that out. that fender gap looks a bit excessive for both the front and rear if you ask me.

Re: Whys my camaro sitting like an suv?

If you do lower it you can get by with springs & LCA relo brackets IMO. You could always add the panhard bar later when funds allow. But without the relo's my rear had no traction. I never did get the panhard and havent noticed any imminent or unusual wear problems.

Im happy with the Eibach 1". Any lower than that I'd REALLY be scraping every driveway and speed bump etc not to mention potentially more tire rubbing.
