Panhard bar bolt wont budge.

I can not get the panhard bar bolt loose that goes to the frame, I have used a breaker bar and tried all my might and it just isnt happening. I also pounded on the bolt, the bar, the nut and it didnt seem to do anything. Can it be heated by a torch that close to the tank ?

Re: Panhard bar bolt wont budge.

Impact wrench & air chisel. I had the same happen to me, bolt rusted/seized to the bushing sleeve. Be careful w/ pounding or putting a lot of leverage on it, the frame bracket is very flimsy and can be bent by hand, don't want to warp it.

The easiest way may be to slip a sawzall blade in between the frame and bushing and go that way

Re: Panhard bar bolt wont budge.

I tried all the above, except the Sawsall and torch, and failed! Good luck!

EDIT: Oops, I was thinking of the upper brace.

Re: Panhard bar bolt wont budge.

I just replaced my panhard bar before xmas, same problem, torch lit up the bushing, not my idea of fun that close to the tank. I soaked the crap out of it with penetrating oil (my choice is the Krown stuff) and just left it for two or three days. Then try working it with the impact wrench. The bolt on mine eventually started moving after a couple of minutes.

Also, don't forget trying to tighten it a bit first. Many times that will break it free enough to be able to loosen it. I don't recommend a torch either for the obvious reasons.

I just removed mine Saturday night. Mine came off using my impact wrench and air chisel.

Re: Panhard bar bolt wont budge.

PB Blaster is a good penetrating oil to let soak in.

Re: Panhard bar bolt wont budge.

well end up stopping at a family owned auto/tire shop on the way home from work they put it up on the lift and used a air ratchet on it, even the air ratchet took awhile for it to budge the nut, didnt think that was going to even work, then while the car was on the lift, took a huge *** sledge with a long handle on it and just kept hitting it and hitting it and it finally budged lol. I am so happy, the old bar I could fold it in three pieces with my hands cause it was cracked in a few places. The eldebrock bar was way worth the money, my rear end feels stiff again. Thanks for the help everyone, looks like next tool i need is an air ratchet and a air compressor.

Re: Panhard bar bolt wont budge.

Did you reuse the original bolt, or get new ones? With them being rusted, just curious how bad the rust was.

Re: Panhard bar bolt wont budge.

all of the above work . i have found times , many times when i just turn the impact down . re-soak everything , put impact back on , re-tighten & loosen . repeat , repeat on & on . last time was on a 2nd gen spring , took 2 1/2 cans of liquid malt beverage , lots of time and it came loose . just take care/time and don't do any damage . if man made it , man can repair it . good luck & cheers .

Re: Panhard bar bolt wont budge.

The rust on the bolts was so bad the threads were gone on some parts, so went to true value hardware and bought some grade 8 bolts and used those. I hit a patch of ice going 70 down the highway 2 years ago, spun the car in a 360 and took it sideways down the ditchline of the highway so the car hasnt sat the same for awhile. The old panhard bar i could have seriously crushed it like a empty pepsi can, thats how flimsy and ruined it was. My rearend now is alot stiffer and the handling seems like it has improved. I had to take a huge sledge to get those bolts out while the car was on a lift lol.
