Pictures of cracks at the steering box... Death wobble...

Anyone have any pics of their cars with the cracks at the steering box; You know, the one that causes the death wobble?

I want to ensure I look everywhere on my 91 Z28 when I get it on the lift next week....

Anyone got any pics of the before and the after?

Kind of hard to tell here, I only have a couple of pictures about like this. If you look close you can see there the lower rear steering box mount was half *** "repaired" by a previous owner. They tried to weld over a crack with everything installed.

The cracks were on all of the mounting points though. I had to grind everything clean and I just started welding away. Because of the wobbling, the holes through the frame rail wore out of round. I just tacked the washers down on the outside to fix that.

I assume the steering box has to come out to do the fix?

I'm just trying to figure out how to get it prepped for a shop to weld it up as I don't weld. I'm guess I'd have to trailer it somewhere to have the work done...

Is the death wobble only when you hit the breaks? I got a major death wobble but only seems to happen when it wants to as i hit the breaks hard.

That sounds vaguley like you have worped rotors. Death wobble you should feel at speed as well.

I noticed the problem when going 40-45mph and hitting a pot hole - The car shook so violently I thought a wheel was coming off... As soon as I slowed down, it went back to normal - Hasn't happened since, but then again, I've been really careful around potholes!

That's exactly what mine is doing. Whole I'm braking, if I hit any kind of unevenness in the road it causes my car to lurch and buck until I come to almost a complete stop. Pretty scary.

I'm assuming this is the famous crack in the frame, as it feels just like my old third gen that had the same problem. I never got it fixed though, but I need to get this one fixed. I don't have welding equipment, so should any decent garage be able to handle fixing it?
