Re: MOOG 5665 Front Springs with a full coil cut (stance and clearance referance pics

looks good - seems a wise compromise between looks and streetability - some 'out-in-the-open' pics would be cool to get a better idea of the stance

a quick note I cut full coil off of some '92 WS6 springs and added the rear spring rubber mount thing and I'd say my front end sits bout an inch lower (by wheel-arch gap) then yours

interesting...

Re: MOOG 5665 Front Springs with a full coil cut (stance and clearance referance pics

these are 756 pound springs though...wheras the ws6 springs are about 500 pound IIRC.

they arent comfortable by any means but i have near NO body roll..once i get the SFC's in, im assuming almost zero body roll..we'll see tho

Not to be a stickler, but 5665 springs are rear springs (107 lbs)

You either have the 5662 or 5664 springs. It's an honest mistake.

Re: MOOG 5665 Front Springs with a full coil cut (stance and clearance referance pics

What are the heights from center of fender to ground for all 4 wheels?

I love the pics, very detailed and really shows the lower parts of the car and how close they are to the ground.

Did they need to be compressed to be inserted?

That's what I was aware of as well, they are VERY stiff and as he said there is pretty much zero body roll in corners, and I am 2" higher than most people on this forum lol.

Another thing to consider is that since he cut a coil, that should raise the spring rate, no?

yes it does, depending on how much was cut off, and how the coil was formed where he cut it. the first coil is usually a lot shorter than the rest because its flattened out to fit int he a-arm.

Re: MOOG 5662 Front Springs with a full coil cut (stance and clearance referance pics

hmm, I cut about 1/2 coil from mine and I have about 1.5" from the bump stop - a-arms a parallel with the ground. Very stiff on the road and almost too stiff on bumps that cause it to bottom. I run 25lbs in the tires and that makes it ok and at least I don't spill my coffee in the am anymore lol

not if you cut the full coil off..then u can just set it in place and get it up with a jack...but i guess if u wanted to, you could. just to be safe.

doesnt raise the spring rate...doesnt change the coils. all your doing when you cut is shortening the coil length. confusing really..just changes travel i think. Vetruck can explain it better.

its flat but you can just cut a peice away after the full coil to make it flat.

What owner? Spohn? If so, that reminds me of the inconsistency (my bad). Note the following from 2007:

FYI: Spohn's IROC style springs have a rate of 748 and 107 (5662 and 5665). A correction has been posted on his site.

Here's the post in its entirety:

Good night! My 5662's set lower than stock height from the get-go, no trimming required.

My front sits pretty low compared to that (28.5 inches driver side and 28 inches passenger side from center of fender to ground) and I have not cut any coils.

Odd, I'm at approximately 26 5/8. I've read, but have never been able to confirm, that OE ride height is 27 1/2. If you're higher than that I wonder if the springs have been indexed correctly.

Re: MOOG 5662 Front Springs with a full coil cut (stance and clearance referance pics

I've done tons of weight reduction on the front of my car, plus the fact i have 4th gen isolators up front and out back. Plus doing a battery relocation this week so that should raise the front even more lol..

The indexing part is interesting because I have UMI a-arms, which don't have a spring index I believe... I'll have to double check though.

With proper indexing and with a coil cut, your car should sit lower than mine.

For optimal handling the back should be level or higher than the front, not lower.

There are two holes in the a-arm. The spring end should cover one but not both.

EDIT: The holes are shown in post #5 of the link to follow:

Have you driven the car yet? If not, drive it around the block and see what happens.

That looks somewhat right.. But give it time to settle, might even take 2 weeks to settle..

drove it around the block...it doesnt take 2 weeks to settle...it takes, backing out of the driveway and pulling forward.

they arent progressive springs..

im gonna take em out again today and turn the spring more i think..

In my experience, they settled quite a bit over the course of 2 weeks.. The car was really jacked up when I first got it but then it came back down quite a bit, but not 6 inches though, maybe 1 inch, hard to tell as I did not measure really..

The 'settling' issue has always intrigued me. People speak about it, but my springs didn't 'settle' a fraction of an inch from summer to summer.

Same.. I'm sure that weight might have a play in it? Or it could be because I installed the 4th gen isolators, maybe those eventually became more compressed over time? Not sure really.. I'm glad my front went down a bit, now I just have to cut the springs a tad in the rear to match.

so you cut 1 and half coils on a moog 5662 spring and it gave you 3 inches.....cool!

im either going to do that or modify my lca's....here's a thread i started...im still wondering if it would work...i would also trim my upper spring pocket openings and flatten my lca humps to gain more travel. i want to be 2 inches off the ground and relocate my exhaust up or modify the exhaust to gain more clearance. i cant drive my bird this high too much longer...haha
