UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!
Re: UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!
I don't know why, but I just LOVE the reflection of the K-member in the chrome oil pan. I had to look at it three times to figure out exactly what was going on.
I must again compliment UMI on the interaction in the community. I have suggested UMI products to several people lately, mostly based on what I've seen here. As I continue my build, I'll be looking to you guys. The price of the K-member will certainly be smoothed slightly by the fact that I can run out and pick it up myself... I want to get out there and see the place sometime too!
One question- I'm not intending to *race* my car (I have a non-f-body road-race car), but I do participate in time trials and I instruct at a number of track days. The car wears the 275R16 Hoosiers when on track or competing at hillclimbs. Would you recommend the RR version when I reach the point of buying one?

We have a few customers waiting on the RR version destined for heavy track use. After we get a few RR's out there and also get a fleet of cars on the standard version we'll know more about its durability. Running a test car around town and through the twisties is good but not near as good of a test as a year on bumpy roads or 10 weekends at an autocross...

Hey Killert. We are slowly but surely building through the k-member list. Thanks for the patience and we'll do our best to ship an outstanding product.

So how is the Road Race version coming along? Can't wait to see it! I ordered one a regular one and just upgraded it to the RR version. I am still building my car so it will be a while before it gets used.

The metal on the outer part of the bushing looks thin. I would be cautious about using these..

Re: UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!
subscribing! definitely getting a kit soon. Product looks great!
I was only going to get the kmember but I dont know how I feel about having to grind down the stock arms. =/
I know it was previously stated that there would be a possibility of getting different colors, any chance a nice blue would be an option?
Thanks!
Shane

Re: UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!
The grinding on the stock arms is minimal. Our pickup point design was just a bit tight for factory arms and we haven't had any trouble with the test car and GM arms.
Right now we're in black and red powder coat only due to the volume of orders we're getting on the k-member and all our other products. Poor Bridget. Our powder coater is run ragged...
Thanks for considering UMI.

also added dyno Dons and all new springs and struts all around
plus a modified STB from Edelbrock to clear the HSR and had to modify the Spohn rear sway bar to clear the new Bilstein shocks with the Moser rear

So curious to see how you guys will re-enforce the K-member. If money is good over the winter, I might end up doing the 383 / tubular k-member swap.

Re: UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!
We're working through the k-member list right now. After we get closer to fulfilling all the pre-orders for standard models we'll start on the RR version. We are actually still finalizing bracing locations as feedback comes in and our in-house testing progresses.
Thanks for the question.

After seeing the pics this will be a winter mod for sure. HAs anyone put it in with the motor still in the car?
Re: UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!
The engine was supported via a transmission jack and the k member was installed and removed 52 thousand times...

Re: UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!
you can also get simple engine supports that sit on the strut towers and chain to the engine to hold it up while you remove the k-member. I have one, and its worth every penny, and it was only 70 or so bucks are harbor freight after coupons.

ok this might be a dumb question ..what should I do first.. This K member or SFC or dose it matter ??? I would Like to weld in SFC first ..before I pull the engine..
Thanks
Thanks
Re: UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!
Our k-member is a great way to drop 25 lbs up front and increase available clearance but it's a lot more involved on installation (still bolt-in though)...

Re: UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!
What bushings are used in the RR K member / A arms? Obviously aiming for zero deflection. Also, I know rack and pinion steering can be used but is it a must? If the k member is set up for rack and pinion can the original steering still be used? What's it looking like the price might be?

We haven't tested our k-member with rack-n-pinion so anything to that end would be unrelated to UMI. I'm sure you can do just fine with a good box.
Re: UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!
Hello Everyone,
I wanted to finally share the good news that all k-members are completed and will be shipping in the next few days (with the exception of any RR set ups). For anyone who has an open order it will be taken care of very soon. We are waiting on spring perches to come off the machine now to ship a few newer orders. Next objective is to have the road race version available so we can ship these couple as well.
Now that we have finally fought through all the back orders and we were able to get ahead this k-member is now a stock item and will ship in just a few days after ordering.
I want to personally thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we designed and built this item. We really appreciate it and the support, we have some awesome customers!
