Front LCA Bushing Problem

Ok, this is the first time I have ever run into this but its also the first time I have had a v6 thirdgen.
I ordered an energy suspension poly kit for the front LCAs and after I pressed out the old bushings I came to find out the new ones are to large in diameter.

Question is: Are the v6 control arm different from the v8?

The bushing sleeve size is a lot smaller than the ones in the energy suspension kit. I can literally drop my old bushing sleeves into the new ones.

Yet both summit and energy suspension said this kit is compatible with the 3.1 camaro.

Re: Front LCA Bushing Problem

i believe the early 82 and maybe 83-84 a-arms had smaller bushings. Its possible your control arms were replaced as one time with earlier ones.

Thanks for the link. Guess mine were switched out by a PO. Can't find any damage underneath though so who knows why. Thanks.

Re: Front LCA Bushing Problem

Does anyone have any microfiche info on these different control arms? I talked to energy suspension today and they kept telling me they have not heard of this difference and have been selling their poly kits for over 10+ years. So needless to say they cannot help me. I am going to just pick up some 91 control arms but I would still like to know if there is documented info from GM about this so I can call them back and tell them and have some reference info they can look at also.

Nope, but thanks. I am talking about the Front Lower control arms, or A-Arms as they are sometimes referred to.

Re: Front LCA Bushing Problem

That only lists 1 bushing. I am looking for documentation which specifically states the bushing size difference for these early thirdgens.

Ah well, I'm picking up a set of arms from a '91 tonight after work.
I do find it odd that there is hardly any info about this though.

Re: Front LCA Bushing Problem

At the very least you'll be able to do some measurements between the old and the new arms. Apparently something is amiss somewhere.

Re: Front LCA Bushing Problem

These A arms have been in use from 1970 to 92 with minor changes along the way.
The early 70-73 had smaller bushings..
The steering stops and bump stops also changed a lil bit thru the years..

I "think" they are the same as any WS6 car uses.
