sway bar/ end link

ok i was in the middle of replacing the sway bar end links on my 84 camaro. and i noticed that it was not fitting the way it was supposed to fit. the bushing would fit but the metal rod would not. now i looked at the old one and it had no bushings with it. my dad (his car originally) said he noticed that one time working on the brakes that there were no bushings and that somebody must've forgot to put them on. anyways, im thinking that bc of them not putting on the bushings the sway bar bent/moved to take up the slack, bc the end link wasnt vertical when i took it out it was slanted. my question is, how do i now straighten the sway bar so that the sway bar end link will fit correctly. do i need a new one or do i just need to unbolt it and adjust it? thanks in advance

Re: sway bar/ end link

The suspension should be loaded when you instal the links. If the suspension is drooping all the way, the endlinks will not.fit well and wil be slanted.

Re: sway bar/ end link

I used a jack on the lower controls arms to find the sweet spot where it would give me more play. Bolted down on the bushing to give me more room and then put the washer on and everything worked out good. My 88 Firebird had the same problem. Just bought it and it was "jingling". Didn't find any bushing on the swaybar endlinks. Good luck.

Re: sway bar/ end link

my sway bar just doesnt line up with the other hole, it is more towards the middle of the car and the hole is slanted at an angle. i just dont see how a plaement of a jack will make it work. ive tried it in different places but they still dont line up

Re: sway bar/ end link

You could try and find another Camaro to crawl under and take a look. Talk to the owner first bc you know how we third genners are about our cars.

Re: sway bar/ end link

edwardgp that wont be needed, me and my dad worked on it and got it to fit. we bent the sway bar with a pry bar and it moved it near perfect, apparently the rubber bushings cracked and broke long ago and the sway bar just fell and moved and did as it pleased, not perfect but way better than before
