Front high or rear low?

It might be a glass half empty or half full question, but is the front sitting high because I pulled out everything but the necessities from under the hood, or is the back sitting low because the suspension is shot? I measured at the center of the wheel from the ground to the fender and the front is at 28" and the rear is 27.5" I'm looking to upgrade the suspension and I'm looking for 1-2 inches of rake but I don't want the whole car sky high. I'm good with the gap between the front tire and fender, but the rear is a little tight. I was thinking on going with Moog 5665 springs in the back because it sounds like it should raise the rear an inch from stock (not sure what stock is, but I'm guessing it's higher than what it is now.) What's recommended for the fronts? Thoughts and explanations on thoughts are appreciated!

Re: Front high or rear low?

I want to start with, to each their own. I think you already have the 4X4 look and going higher would make it look worse. I would say get springs for the front and see how it looks compared to the current height. If the rake isn't right, then cut a little bit off of the spring, quarter coil at a time, until you get the right height.

As to your question the answer is, yes. You have a 25 year old car and the suspension is going to sag. Also if you have removed all of the AC, SMOG, etc out of the front you have dropped enough weight to raise the front end a little bit.

Re: Front high or rear low?

I vote to lower the front but I'm a lowered kinda guy. I'm at 25.5" front, 26.5" rear. That being said? The front appears to be at the stock correct height (for a "gutted 3rd gen with a fiberglass hood") & the rear appears to be sagging.

So raise the rear if the height doesn't bother you.

Re: Front high or rear low?

Thanks for replying, I was getting worried!
The issue with lowering is that I live in a crappy road area. Lowering around here is just asking to break and scrape stuff. Even at this height, I'll occasionally scrape something. Heck, last year I scraped and bent one exhaust tip entering a parking lot!
Now that I've looked at the pic a few times, it does look pretty high up front, idk, maybe it's the angle of the pic or something. I'll have to look at the car again when I get home....
Drkhrse89 - What springs would you suggest for the front?
BlackenedBird - not that it matters, but it's actually a steel hood. I had to cut a hole in the hood to get the air cleaner to fit, so I welded a cowl on to cover the hole. I just haven't finished it yet. I'm waiting to get everything else fixed/done before I do the body work.

Re: Front high or rear low?

glass half empty or half full
Nahhh .... I'm an engineer ... the glass is just, twice the correct size.

Seriously though, your rear is sagging. Springs are toast. You need a pair of Moog CC635.

Re: Front high or rear low?

Sofa - yeah, I'm the same way. Either you need more liquid or a smaller glass.
Why do you suggest the progressive springs?
After more searching of the site, I was thinking on going with 5665's in the back and 5662's in the front. My understanding is you can cut linear springs. That way if I don't like the ride height, I can always cut them down instead of buying different springs.
My knowledge of suspension/handling is very little so I'm always open for opinions. Once the car is done, it's going to be just a daily driver that can be fun on the weekends.

Re: Front high or rear low?

If you get a set of Ground Control Weight Jacks? You get to choose your spring rate, or they can for you if you are not comfortable/familiar enough to choose for yourself, and you get to adjust it up or down to your desire without cutting anything. If you cut to go down? You can't go back up without spending money. With Weight Jack you can go up & down "any" time you want with simple hand tools.
