UMI SFC and SLP exhaust issues?

Anyone running the UMI SFC's and SLP headers/y-pipe and run into clearance issues with the passenger side SFC? The shop I had install the SFC said the cross over bar that comes for the passenger SFC wouldn't clear the y-pipe. They were able to get it in, but now I'm getting what sounds like contact between the two when the car runs.

That is normal for perimeter positioned subframes. You must cut the y-pipe and re-weld so it clears on the inside...

I had the same issue and contacted UMI. I was told that most people do not even weld in that small piece on the passenger side because of contact when using with headers and aftermarket y-pipes. Your choice is to either leave it off or re-cut the y-pipe. I just left it off and haven't had any problems.

I am not running the SLP but have Hooker. The UMI instuctions stated to weld that piece in after the exhaust was installed so it could be positioned to clear. I have mine welded on my car and it clears ok but figured if I ever change exhaust that I would have to cut it back off and reposition it

That little piece is optional just for this reason. Our Houser UMI car doesn't have it due to the exhaust location and it works great.

Thanks for the replies. I had the shop that did the work leave the cross piece out as there was no way it would have cleared the y-pipe. Car is really tight now

Awesome. Glad it worked out well for you.

We have the same SFC's on our '89 as well. There is a storm drain at the front of our factory. When we pull in at an angle, the left front tire pulls of the ground...

Have a great weekend corner carving.
