Access to rear top shock nuts.

The book says to pull back the carpet which must be a joke. That's not working for me. Can someone suggest what I might be doing wrong? And if I'm not doing anything wrong, what do I need to remove to gain access to those nuts?

By the way, I saw the "HOw To" thread and did a search, no help.

Just next to the rear quarterpanel plastic. Right where the flat dips forward onto the rear seat backrest on each side/ When you pull the carpet back, there is a piece of foam that is in a larger triangular kindof shaped block form that you have to pull out and the bolts are under them

No need to remove the seat, or even as much as is shown in the pictures below. It's not exactly loose when you pull up that carpet in the corner. But you should be able to do it with just your hands.

Re: Access to rear top shock nuts.

I'll give it another try tomorrow. I wasn't able to grab it to pull it out. I tried to pull it up as shown in the pictures and it wasn't moving with what I consider reasonable effort.

So, let's say I can't manage to pull it out, what exactly do I need to remove to gain access?

The seats and....

If you can't pull what out? The carpet? They is all that needs to come out, and it must.

Your Right Charlie You Can't Just Grab The Carpet and Pull It These Moulding Screws On Both Sides Have To Be Removed They Also Hold The Carpet In Place.

Re: Access to rear top shock nuts.

I was in the same boat Saturday. I just got some KYB AGX shocks and struts, was going to do the rear first but I couldn't figure out how to best access the top nut. Was looking like I might have to pull out the rear seats and quarter panel trim, so I did the front struts instead, waiting until I found out more about getting to the rear shock top nut. Thanks for the photos, now I can see what I need to do to get to the nuts.

Humor me. If the carpet does not simply pull out, whatever the reason may be, what interior pieces need to be removed to facilitate the job.

Re: Access to rear top shock nuts.

I tried again and pulling the carpet back wasn't working. For those experiencing the same problem, here's how to get the job done.

Remove the seat.

Each cushion has a bolt just below the front middle. Remove that bolt and the seat will be loose.

But there is also Velcro on the back, holding it to the carpet - the reason pulling it up was difficult.

One nut on each end holds the seat back in place. Remove those and remove the seat back.

As mentioned by gt4373, remove the molding screws. The bracket to which the seat back fastens is also pictured.

With those removed, the carpet can be pulled up easily and the shock nuts are under the yellow foam thingies.

The amount of time to remove all of this is less than I have spent trying to figure out why I can't pull the carpet back and it is easy. So if it's immediately apparent that you can't pull it back, this is your ticket.
