hey guy, just got some ws6 swaybars for my non ws6 bird and I was wondering if someone could tell me what I can transfer over and what not. like I have new stab. links can I resuse those being its a bigger bar, and my main concern is about what bushings to use and if the brackets for the bushings on the smaller bars will work on the newer ones, thanks

 

Not an expert, but did put bigger sway bars on my bird. If the end links are good, you can probably reuse them. However, a bigger sway bar will need bigger bushings which means bigger brackets. I used poly bushing and bracket sets that had grease fittings. That way I can grease the bushings (uses special grease). I've got 2 grease guns, one for the bushings and the other for the steering linkage.

If money is an issue, try picking up the right size brackets at a junk yard or buy new brackets and bushings without grease fittings. Shouldn't cost too much. The bushings come with a small packet of bushing grease. I'd still get poly bushings; probably about the same cost as rubber bushings.

Be careful not to tighten the end links too tight or you'll ruin the bushings on the end links.

You can reuse both the end links and the mounting brackets. The bushings have the same outer diameter, only the inner diameter changes to accommodate the thicker bar. I'm running a 36mm bar up front with the car's original mounting brackets. Originally had a 29mm bar in front. I also ran a 34mm hollow bar for a while using those same brackets.

Go with the poly bushings, they are the same price or cheaper than the stock-style rubber ones. Definitely use the special grease they come with to prevent squeaks.

 

Thanks for the info on the bushing brackets. Obviously, I didn't know the outer diameter of different bushings are the same. Didn't look like it when I installed bigger sway bars, but I bought new brackets with grease fittings, so I didn't try putting the old ones back on. My bad.
