good brand of shocks/struts?

Ok so it's about that time for me to get some new shocks/struts for my 91 z28. My question is what is a good brand to purchase. I've read KYB are a good brand but I also heard about this brand called competition engineering and was also wondering if anyone has had experience with this brand. Before anyone post on this thread let me just say my camaro is not my daily driver and I'm looking to make it more of a drag strip car but still be able to maintain the driveability around town. Thanks and would greatly appreciate some input

If you are only going to drive i as a weekend play toy i would go with the competition engineering......
90/10 up front and 50/50 out back.........and a pair of moroso trick springs up front also

Re: good brand of shocks/struts?

what are you using the car for, and what kind of ride quality/handling are you after?
a drag car would need something different than a daily driver, and a road racer/autocross car would require something else..

I know very little about suspension could you explain this 90/10 and 50/50 to me. Also would this be good to use at the drag as well on the occasional quarter mile?

I plan on using the car on the weekends not as a daily driver and also I would prefer it to be more of a drag car not the road racer/ autocross

Re: good brand of shocks/struts?

90/10 and 50/50 refer to compression/rebound rate.
A50/50 requires the same force to push in as it does to pull out.
A 90/10 reguires 10% of its pressure load to pull out and 90% to push in.
Which means when you launch the front end will lift VERY easily and the stay up as the strut is much harder to compress.........thus transfering weight ti the rear tires where it is needed.
You can also get a 70/30 which will still transfer nicely but have better street manners.

Re: good brand of shocks/struts?

Thanks MrBrooks I really appreciate the input. I think I might just go with the competition engineering and see how they work. I mean there's really only way to find out if I'm gonna like them or not and that's to just put them on my camaro and see how they perform

Re: good brand of shocks/struts?

Well the CE units are iir are adjustable 50/50 70/30 90/10
Also the Moroso springs i mentioned are for drag racing........they are a lower spring rate and longer.........which allows the car to ride at the proper height BUT lift substancialy............which goes along with the struts........
One thing to keep in mind if you set the car up with 70/30 or 90/10 struts and the moroso springs.........it will handel like an absolute PIG...............but will be streetable...........just dont plan on losing the copz on lthe twisties..........
