I'm in the process of gathering parts for my spring install. Going with the Prokit. While I'm at it I'm going to replace my front strut mounts, ball joints, and control arm bushings. My KYB struts are new from the previous owner. I'm going to use Moog parts.

I can't seem to find the upper control arm bushings for the front or rear. It appears Moog doesn't make them. Anybody got any suggestions as to a good replacement brand to use?

Here's what I'm using for the other stuff:

Strut mounts - k6412 & k6414
Ball joints - k6145t
LCA bushings front - k6253
LCA bushings rear - k6178
Coil spring insulator front - k160044

 

No one in their right mind would change the bushings in the rears. That would cost about twice as much as just buying whole new arms by the time you got done paying someone to install them. Worse even than that, if that's possible, is that the stock rear arms are SO WEEEEEEK, you can bend em with your bare hands. (or at least I can, 6'1" 150 lb powerhouse that I am) Just replace em with something substantial. I used Lakewoods on my car but there are PLENTY of choices.

There ARE NO upper control arms on these cars, front or rear. Damn good thing you haven't found any parts for em.

I strongly suggest that you go to the junkyard and get new arms and put the new BJs and CABs in those, so your car isn't out of service for so long. The arms are the same as something else REAL common (A bodies, G bodies, S trucks, iunno, but SOMETHING) so finding em is no problem and they're CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.

 

I'm not very mechanical, but learning. I looked at a diagram and realize my misunderstanding. So if I understand you correctly I should buy new control arms for the rear and replace the bushings and ball joints in the front (maybe get some control arms from a junker).

I will check into he rear control arms.

Right: that's about the sum of the program. Pretty straightforward.

In the rear, these cars have a torque arm, rather than upper CAs... sort of alike, only 1 really long upper CA but not quite exactly. Wouldn't hurt to get a new bushing for that while you're at it.
