i finally got my car running, tuned, and ready to roll. if I do a power launch the rear end feels like its walking all over the place. im afraid im going to break stuff if I keep launching like it does. I currently have:
gm 10 bolt 7.5 rearend
moser 28 spline axles
Detroit locker posi trac
3.73 gears
rear air shocks
and 275/60 r15 drag radials on the rear. I currently have all stock suspension on it. anyone lead me in the right direction please?

 

LCARBs

Get rid of the air shocks before they punch your floor pan out

 

what shocks would better fit? I was thinking the lakewwod 50/50 shocks?

 

for now I would say get some 3 way adjustable summits, a decent panhard, and lower control arms. If the car isn't lowered I wouldn't worry about LCARB's for now, but would get them on the list of things to get!

 

Out of ALL the things I ever have done to my STOCK RIDE HEIGHT car (Spohn torque arm, first for T-5, later for T-56), springs, shocks, LCAs, Panhard bar, sway bars, SFCs, .... the list just goes ON and ON and ON and ON, the ONE SINGLE THING that made the MOST difference, was LCARBs.

Anybody that says otherwise has obviously never installed them on their own car. (or, has an aftermarket rear which already corrected the geometry, and they just don't realize THE REAL REASON why their car doesn't wheel-hop)

He didn't state he had wheel hop, but was having rear end walking around, 20+ yr old bushings are shot, aftermarket components, or even just putting new replacement bushings in place is the first step.

Relocating the mounting points will do no good if the connecting pieces are worn out.

Have it your way... you'll eventually figure it out. (maybe)

It's about "plant" vs "lift". PUSH the tires INTO the pavement, or, LIFT them OFF the pavement when they get traction. Pretty simple really.

 

I didn't think I'd like my new to me panhard rod this much. I got a used Spohn adjustable rod end/poly one off a TGO user I know IRL. I also put on a Jegster relocation bracket. The car is a lot more predictable when unleashing torque in corners and at launch.

 

is a rear sway bar a must have? not saying im taking it off, didn't know if it actually did anything

 

Is it necessary, no....but it makes things alot nicer on street cars, and the ability to preload (if using adjustable) when racing.

installed the lca panhard bar and summit shocks over weekend. waiting to install sway bar bracket and im gonna take it out for a launch, and a few 11s

are these sufficient enough for the front struts on my car? im going to by the caster plates from umi when I get struts also.

 

There are better options out there, but what is the main goal for the car?

Those struts will probably be ok.

Now that you have the new components in, do you notice any of the rear end walk you were talking about?

Before you go and throw on a decent set of sticky tires, I would NOW take sofakingdom's recommendation and get a set of LCARB's to help improve the geometry of the rear suspension.
