My steering wheel/column has been super loose, so I pulled the column to rebuild it. Do they make a rebuild kit with new bearings?
From what I can tell, there are two bearings at the top of the column held in with rubber guides and races. There is a bigger bearing at the bottom of the column. Am I missing anything? Is there anything else that should be replaced in a steering column rebuild? Where can I get parts? The auto parts stores only have the lower bearing, but no upper bearing.
Did replacing those two bearings fix the play or if it made the steering more tight

this is a 6 year old thread, but still helpful today.
replacing bearings wont make the steering more tight, but it will reduce side to side slop in the steering wheel.
Yes use loctite on the torx bolts. We use the steering wheel as a handle getting in and out, and that puts alot of stress on the column
And also yes, the column rebuild is pretty easily done if you have all the parts and the time to do it. And of course the box induces play, as well as worn steering components like tie rod ends..

Are you saying any slop in the steering column, including steering box is not the same as say a bad tie-rod. just trying to learn about this. if the steering column or steering box have play, will the wheel turn, but not engage the steering linkage as it should, you might turn it an extra 1/4" before it would normally engage the steering linkage. this is what I mean by play/slop ?
i was refeering to the steering wheel and colum only.
if you can turn your steering wheel and the tires/suspension isnt moving, then yes, you have some worn parts. this could be called, loose, sloppy, slop etc.
i was referring to grabbing the steering wheel, not turning it, but physically moving it around. This is caused by loose or broken parts, bad bearings, etc.
So yes, simliar, but different.
-everything from the steering wheel to the balljoints should be serviced, and nice and tight to prevent any loosness throughout the entire steering and suspension system..
