Thx ..... not that I dislike the factory setup but I'm having fun with this car and figured what the hell. Really appreciate the feedback.

Re: Who's after market cross member kit

I dont know what truth there is in it but when I was looking years ago a lot of people told me to steer clear of the aftermarket K members for street driving and stick with the factory K member.

This is partially true if you select a chromoly k-member which is far more likely to fracture under shock loads. Mild steel applications are just fine. No two aftermarket k-members are the same though and some are certainly built better than others. There is no need to change k-members for the sake of changing a k-member. Most folks who go aftermarket are doing so because they are incorporating a whole new set-up/system into their cars. Meaning, it is likely paired with an LS/LT swap and they want extra header clearance, or its for the guys shaving weight off the nose of the car.

Re: Who's after market cross member kit

Thanks Shifty,
Yes and you have part of my reasoning in your answer. Swapping in an LT on this car and REALLY will probably benefit from the increased header clearance. My father and I restore antique cars so the mechanical aspects don't make me the least bit nervous. I was looking at a mild steel version for the same reason you recommend it as well. Weight is not such a concern and the savings will be small in that category. Thanks again for the feedback. Next question will be a reasonably priced source assuming I end up going this route.

Check out the site sponsors. UMI is a sponsor and buying directly from them is sometimes the easiest.
