Idler Arm hole center measurement

Can anyone confirm the Idler Arm hole center measurement / length for me?
I have a Pitman that is 6.5" from my research is standard, but have the Moog 6718 and a K-6249 both measure at 6.25".
From reading https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/susp...dler-arms.html, it seems the AC Delco item is also hit and miss as to what comes in the box.
I have not found a confirmation of this figure in a lot of related posts, and I'm wondering if this difference is enough to cause some of the problems that some are encountering or is this what GM intended.
83 and RHD, but that shouldn't matter!

Re: Idler Arm hole center measurement

Seems like GM made them with/in diff sizes. I have 4 of them all with diff makes. expl +4 +5 +7 and a +6.5 if I recall dont know what that all about. but all are for the 3rd gen Camaro.

Re: Idler Arm hole center measurement

What you will want is to A) match the Pittman arm center to center distance. B) Then when you install the idler arm make sure the point where the center tie rod connects is on the same plane as the Pittman arm.
that is usually measured from bottom of the center tie rod where the inner tie rod mount too the C/L of the A Arm pivot bolts should be about 17mm

Re: Idler Arm hole center measurement

DF, Centerlink height/horizontal alignment is not my issue, but thanks for joining in.

Due to the shortened idler arm by 0.25", the swept linear distance over the different circumferences is longer on the idler to maintain the swept distance of the pitman, (like cam ramp or base circles). this causes the tie-rod to travel further causing that axle to slightly over rotate compared to the pitman side tie-rod. you can mock this up easy enough.

So is this the cause of many tracking/steering queries on TGO and simply dismissed by re-alignment and replacing everything that moves.
I haven't found any steering apps that will allow differing Pitman:Idler between centers, but anyone with Solidworks or Autocad etc could draw it up.

To me, the idler and Pitman should always be the same distance between centers.

My OG post...is this what GM intended and why or has the quality of manufacturers one unchecked?

Re: Idler Arm hole center measurement

What you will want is to A) match the Pittman arm center to center distance. ** Update *** You might have to buy more than one to measure and return the ones not the same center-center as your Pittman arm. I do not recall if GM used more than one pittman arm but it would make sense as the IROC's have a different tie rod height than the standard suspension Camaros (17mm vs 15mm).

Re: Idler Arm hole center measurement

The AC delco one is the correct dimension. I went through this last year. The moog unit is incorrect for our cars.
