Bump Steer Kit

So doing a search for them, it looks like the major players for our cars are UMI, Spohn and AJE.

Are there others?

Is one any better than the others?

It looks like UMI is the most expensive and easiest to get, Spohn is in the middle (though I've had problems with Spohn parts so I'm kind fo biased here) and AJE is the cheapest by like $40.

Re: Bump Steer Kit

For what it's worth these are the parts I ended up using, I decided to piece together my bump steer components.
Steel Swaged Tube 5/8 Inch Threaded, 9 Inch Length, Black (afcoracing.com)
Steel 5/8" Heavy Duty Right Hand Rod End Heavy Duty (afcoracing.com), Got lucky and found a set of brand new rod ends on eBay for cheap
Proforged 104-10058 Proforged Inner Tie Rod End (holley.com)
Safety Retaining Washer for Rod End Bearings - Pegasus Auto Racing Supplies
Seals-It WS3125 Heim Joint Rod End Seals, 5/16 Inch Hole, Set/6 (speedwaymotors.com)
Bump Steer Kit 0.1 to 0.5 in Spacers | Allstar Performance, I didn't end up using the bolts as they were too short for my application.

I hope their products are better than the web design. This looks interesting.

Re: Bump Steer Kit

I have the Spohn kit. Not sure what this guy is using. Car has been on jack stands since before Covid so can't comment but this video makes me wonder if it's beefy enough.

Re: Bump Steer Kit

The UMI kits look like they come with a heavy duty version with a bolt. I'd probably trust that more than the stud. Looks like nice stuff.

Re: Bump Steer Kit

I ended up calling UMI and asking about their 2 kits and basically got the answer that the tapered studs tend to get bent, anything that you're going to actually drive hard get the HD with the bolt. I mentioned that I was originally going to get the stud and figured if I bent the stud I can always swap some 5/8" bolts in, and he added that they come with a longer shim pack and you'll probably pay $10-15 each for that size 5/8" bolt, each.

I have the HD kit coming.

Re: Bump Steer Kit

I used the UMI bump steer kit in my video above.
raced 2 seasons and probably 350+ Autocross laps with sticky 295 & 315 200tw tires.
The 5/8in bolt held up fineThe UMI cheap rod end was making a lot of noise even when lubricated. Although it wasn't completely worn out.
You can just replace the cheap UMI resin filled rod ends with a higher quality one from say, Founders, QA1, or go baller with Aurora.

I made a custom kit myself with a grade 9 Bolt, ARP nut, and a machined spacer from 316 stainless.
Bump at 1in compression or rebound is about 0.003in. basically non existent.

I'll be making the spacer from Titanium eventually. And ditching the UMI tie rod connector with a WoodWard Forged set.
