Can anyone tell me if this is AC delco part number will work for my 89 Iroc z. Please AC Delcon 45D3149 and 45D3149. Or give me and actual part number and website to order the lower control arms. I don’t want tubular just some old fashion control arms. Thank you

 

i just went through this same issue with my 84 a year ago. If you really want brand new ones the S-10 had the same ones. What’s wrong with the stock ones on the car? I just painted mine and had a hydro shop press in new bushings

 

Nothing wrong with them, just wanted new ones. I’m just having a hard time getting the bushings out. The shops around me won’t work on it, or press new ones in. I got a bushing kick and try to fab something to push it out tomorrow. Yah, someone told me the s-10 was the same besides the metal that stops when you turn the steering wheel all the way. I just don’t know what year is the s-10 the same. I’m sure if I just picked the 89 s-10 lower control arm on rockauto it would work.

 

If you press your own bushings in, make sure you use a socket between the ears to prevent it from crushing together.

 

Yah I’ll do that. If I even get it out. I tried drilling the rubber out, really didn’t work that good. I really don’t want to go with a tubular control arm, but if I don’t find the right LCA, then I might have to get them. O

 

If the shops around you are not being much help try a specialty hydraulic repair shop. I called around to the local auto mechanics and not one would touch it. Almost every one of them said no we only replace the entire assembly. I was so desperate to find somebody I even called pep boys if that tells you how hard it was.
Wasn’t cheap though and in retrospect I’d have just bought tubulars, better option anyway.

 

That’s kind of the same around here. No one will touch them. I may just buy the 89 chevy LCAs they should be the same and $200 for the both may be the best option

And I think Harbor Freight sells something similar too.


I ended up buying this kit, did my lower controls arms (ball joints and bushings), and then my friends 88 Chevy half on as well. The kit is cheaper than buying new control arms. Yes we used a socket to make sure we didn't crush the mounting ears. And come to think of it, I used this tool to replace the rear lower control bushing as well.

 

I bought that kit yesterday. This is what I’m using today to try and remove them. If not I’m going to buy 2000 s10 LCAs and just change the stop on it

 

For the front LCAs - I sort of remember that there was a spot weld on opposite sides, where the bushing is insert. I "think" we ground the spot weld down and then used a hammer and chisel to break the rest of the weld. Then we drove the old bushing out with a hammer and socket, chisel? Then used the press to install them. Brute force.

I do remember using a sledgehammer, me holding the flat punch and my friend swinging the hammer to drive the bushing out. Another vague memory is the rubber insulator came out but left the sleeve? That one was a hack saw blade to cut enough of the metal and then used a big screwdriver to bend till it broke?

 

I will go see if there is a spot weld. Football is on, so probably won’t end up doing it today lol.
