KYB Strut Mounts

Question- I have a ‘88 GTA L98 with new Koni Yellows and new springs. The car just seems to hit hard on the initial contact. Konis adjusted to full soft. One thing I noticed was when looking at the new KYB strut mounts the drivers side actual moves up and down the passenger does not. So my question is, is the drivers already bad? Should the rubber move up and down in the cylinder which mounts to the fenders? I am to the point of conceding and going to buy some Founders. Thoughts?

Re: KYB Strut Mounts

So the strut mount rubber should not move in the mount itself?

Right offhand I don't know how it should be. But if one of them moves around and the other one doesn't something must be wrong. They should do the same thing.

not quite understanding your question, are you concerned about the struts, or the strut mounts? you imply the KYB strut mounts are new, but you don't actually say that anywhere? Is the driver what already bad?

the strut mounts will probably have a small amount of play, but not a large amount. if one is behaving differently then one of them is not correct.

BTW - Did you happen to have the factory strut mounts? How did the new KYB strut mounts compare? The new AC Delco's are smaller than factory, and take extra washers to get secured correctly.

Re: KYB Strut Mounts

Yes both strut mounts new (KYB) about 2k miles ago (pre-Hot Rod Power Tour). The drivers side rubber inside the mount itself moves up and down when pressing on the fender. The passenger has no vertical movement.

I ordered Founders strut mounts.

that doesn't seem correct, especially if it is moving a lot. how did the KYB compare with the Factory mounts?

Re: KYB Strut Mounts

To be honest, I didn’t look at the stock ones assuming they were 35+ years old.
