Anyone cut there springs???

I was just curious if anyone cut their springs to lower their car. I know its a cheap alternative and sort of a jack job.( Please Don't flame me) But, has anyone done it and it turn out nice. Any pointers would be helpful.

I did on the front of my car and it looks 10 times better. I removed alot of weight from the engine compartment and the front was a little high. I cut one coil and it made it level. Well, actually a little rake but looks better anyway. It was very easy. Just look in the tech articles to figure out how to get the spring out and then cut how ever much off that you need then put it back in. Simple. As for ride...I can't tell any difference. Not bumpy or anything.

I have cut the front and back springs on an 83 Z28 with no difficulty at all. The car look much better in its lowered condition.

You will notice a change in stiffness and handling when you cut springs. Cutting a spring acually increases its spring rate because there are fewer coils to compress (less spring), therefore the suspension stiffens up. Bumps are a bit bumpier and you could experience a little understeer when going into a corner hard due to the stiffer spring rate. (not noticable under normal driving conditions.)

Hope that helps

I used coil spring adjusters/stabilizers, you can get them from any parts shop or catalog. THey work pretty good, its pretty hard to put them on, i had to buy longer, smaller bolts to put on. I louder the fron 1" and the rear 1.5". It handles pretty good and rides alittle less bouncy.

Without going into a long story. I would suggest cutting no more that 1/4 coil at a time from the bottom of your front springs. Then re arch the bottom to make it look like it did originally.

I had to cut the Eibach springs I have to get the ride height where I wanted it.Nothing wrong with cutting them, but like ANDYZ28 said, cut 1/4 coil at a time and flatten out the last coil.Cut-off wheel and die grinder makes this a pretty quick job.Takes longer to put it back together.
