I'm deep in the process of LS427/570, Tremec T56 Magnum F swapping my 1987 IROC. Both are in the car right now. The car currently has KYB AGX struts up front and shocks in the back.
I've got all UMI suspension up front and in the back. Road Race K Member, tubular, delrin bushed control arms, and weight jacks with 850lb springs. In the back, I've got roto joint lower control arms and Eibach Sportline springs that were on the car when I bought it. I'm probably going to go with UMI rear weight jacks.
I've done a good bit of reading and the Koni Yellows appear to be the way to go. On the other hand, those already paid for KYB AGXs look new. The car will be a street car and maybe I'll autocross it once in a blue moon.
You'll want a bit more shock adjustment with the weight jacks. At softer settings my car would "float" at higher speeds. Dialing up the pressure with the Koni's helped.
Don't spend the money yet. Drive around with the KYB's and see how you like them.
OK. The KYBs are on the car right now and I'm hoping to have my car on the road by June to beat the Houston heat. I'll just hold off buying the new Koni Yellows.
If you're going to be trying out the KYBs til June, and you decide to go with Konis, I'd wait until July to buy them. They do a sale every July, last I checked they were a bit over $700 for all 4 during the sale I got my set back in July of 2022, and I've absolutely loved em. I daily drive my thirdgen, and with the rears on the middle setting and fronts a few clicks down from max, still perfectly comfortable on the street, and feels nice and planted on corners. I went to the Konis from (assumedly) stock shocks/ struts all around, so I can't speak on the difference between them and the KYBs, but the Konis are easily one of the best upgrades I've done for the car in the 9 or so years I've had her.
