Today I was going some work on my car trying to fix my exhaust leak and I had it jacked up. My friend stopped by and said something about my rear lower control arms. So I took a second look at them and they are boxed and have a grease fitting where they mount to the body. Did these come stock with any thirdgens?? The rearend I got from an 88 had crappy stamped steel arms on it.

If this isnt stock im also wondering if my shocks and springs have been changed. The shocks are white and look killed but the springs look really new compared to anything else. I thought my car sat so low because the suspension was toast from all the mileage and it rides real stiff but maybe its just not stock???

no the arms are not stock, thats a good thing. as for the shocks, they are either gabrial (pray they are not) or KYB. i don't know of any other company that makes white shocks.

and as for the springs, it sounds like someone put some drop springs in there. if the car rides stiff and you don't like it, you should prob go ahead and change the springs. the stock springs from moog are pretty cheap and will restore stock ride high and ride comfort

i'd rather have gabriel then kyb. at least they are reasonably priced as you get the same ride out of them.

i don't know of any "good" shock/strut that is white....air shocks, some monroe and gabriel are the only white ones i've seen however they all have really large tabs that say what they are so you should know.

Rancho shocks are also white. but again i am willing to bet that they arnt rancho's as they are mainly a truck shock. pretty good too but kinda high priced. priced em for my '79 Bronco with a 3" suspension lift and they wre about $100 a peice. $600 for shocks was not acceptable. so i went with the Cheapo $20 shocks NAPA carries.

Depends on the Rancho shock.. don't know if they make 'em anymore, but the RS1000's used to be about $20/each, but a Rancho 5000 was about $60- but i'm going back into 1993-era!

Who knows they could be ranchos but I hope not. The guy who would have done all the work on the car probably sold it in around 95 im thinking. I cant tell what kind of control arms they are either because everythings so rotted to hell.

the rancho RS9000 is a 5 way adjustable shock and runs about $100 a piece.

shocks are really cheap anyways. i'm about ready to order a set of 4 bilstein shock/struts. i doubt i'm going to use the rears since i already replaced them with lifters. if you are going to replace the shocks and struts, i would use bilstein. superior to the lower grades like monroe and gabrial and not pricy like tokico or illuminas. i think they are the all around best shock for a mid priced street project.
